The Final Accessory

The day had finally come. Three months of planning. The trucks arrive on time to my happy surprise! The furniture is placed perfectly according to the floor plan lay out. I still get a thrill when a room starts to come to life! As I stand back to take a look around my mind is taking note of all the gaping holes or finishing touches necessary to complete the look of the room. I will need lamps, a throw or shawl, picture frames, area rugs, wall art, and greenery. Accessorizing is the art of placement and not to be taken lightly; the icing on the cake. The jewelry if you will…The final brush stroke in the creation of a beautiful painting. Without accessorizing you have a room that is just full of furniture. It doesn’t need to be overdone. Even done minimally it can be perfect if the pieces are chosen carefully. One day six months after I placed the final accessory, a twelve foot silk tree, into a client’s home, I received the strangest call. My client told me that her twelve foot palm tree had fallen over! IMPOSSIBLE!!! The tree was cemented into a bucket then placed into a beautiful container. Thank goodness no-one was hurt and nothing was broken. When I got there I couldn’t believe my eyes. My client was standing there smiling at me. As we walked inside she said, “Marla, I’m so embarrassed… our cleaning lady thought the palm tree was so beautiful it had to be real… so she had been watering it every week!” I thought she was kidding. You see, I have all of my trees custom made using only real trunks. The trunk eventually rotted from the water, the cement loosened and the twelve foot palm fell over! It was replaced and never watered again. If you would like to ask Marla a design question she can be reached at: [email protected]’RE NOW ON THE WEB! www.jaffeinteriordesign.com
