MARKS Meeting March 26, 2016 MARKS Flying Field
Meeting called to order by President Harry Semenko at 2 PM with 16 members present. Treasurers Report was given by Dana Morgan and was approved as read. February 2016 Minutes were read by Jim Waybright acting for Jason Taylor and approved as read.
Old Business Elmer McKay gave the following status report on having Tyler Butler and WBOC TV doing a segment about our club. Met with Tyler Butler Wednesday the 16th. email: [email protected] Willing to do a TV segment about our club. (Tyler also has a personal drone.) Discussed their coverage of our club. Would be looking for website URL and facebook page. Story possible as: 1- New FAA requirements for drone registration includes RC model airplanes 2- Young people more interested in their electronic devices than learning or participating in a hands-on hobby now days. 3- Simply building and flying model planes as a recreational hobby. Should have some sort of organized program to show the TV station when they come. Line up specific pilots and planes ahead of time for the presentation. Treat it like a general day of flying, anyone else can come and fly as well. (Open field.) Continued on page 7 Suggested program

President's Notes
Hello Marksmen, It's nearing the time of the month for our meeting. Ray will be filling in for me as my wife and I are headed out of town for some relaxation and visiting family. We've had some pretty lousy weather lately, but as always, it will get better. I believe The Centre at Salisbury has contacted Jason in reference to a Mall Show. You will need to decide about that one at the meeting. Don't forget this Saturday's Field Work Day. A big thanks to Caje and Jim for getting the field safety fencing done early. Weather will be improving and we'll all be out there flying again. Be safe and see you all Saturday. Harry

Should provide two or three available dates when program would be available. TV folks to pick one and notify us. Suggested program 1- Someone to present our club and tell what we are about, and some of our activities. Also cover AMA registration for insurance, the new UAS registration, etc. 2- Static display of as many different types of flying models as possible. At least one of each following type: Completely old school kit built ARF foam ARF wood ARF wood and fiberglass Scratch built foam board Helicopter Drone (Builders / fliers should be able to talk about their plane along with the costs involved for the plane, power system, and electronics.) 3- Flying demonstrations. Can be one or two of each type, but as much flying as possible. The more information we can give them while they are here, the more footage they have to edit from.
He also presented a copy of a Flyer the club could place at public locations to allow more visibility for the club.

Our club is always looking for an opportunity to share the fun of model airplane building and flying with new people. The club welcomes prospective members of all ages. We have many well-qualified instructors that can teach you how to fly.
If you think you might be interested in visiting or joining the club and learning to fly, we would suggest that you attend one of our monthly club meetings which are held on the last Sunday of each month at our flying field on St Lukes Road just off Snow Hill Road (RT 12) in Fruitland MD, and/or visit our flying field to talk with various members and watch them fly.
If you are a visitor to our area or on vacation and have a current AMA membership and your UAS registration, you are welcome to come fly with us. For directions and more formation, please visit our web site www.marksrc.com.

Jim Waybright gave the following report of the flying field status:
The big storm in February blew out the north end of our shelter. When it came apart, it shattered two of the glass panels. Caje has a friend who works at Walker & Laberge Glass Company in Delmar, De. He installed new glass in the frames for us at no charge. Caje rebuilt the end of the shelter, added new reinforcement to the structure and reinstalled all the glass panels. I think the club should send Walker & Laberge Glass Company a thank you letter. I will supply Caje a MARKS letterhead and he will send them a thank you letter. Thanks to Caje for doing a great job! The board of directors approved $150.00 to purchase fertilizer for the field. I was able to purchase thirteen 50 lb. bags of 10-10-10 fertilizer with the $150.00. Bill Young supplied his tractor, spreader and his labor to spread the fertilizer on all parts of the field we use. Thanks to Bill for using his time and equipment to complete this task. We needed to roll the field but didn't have any water to fill the roller. Caje installed the irrigation pump so we could obtain water to fill the roller. Thanks again, Caje! As approved at the February meeting I bought and installed a new American flag at the flying field. Please plan on attending the work day April 9, 2016. There are a lot of items we need to accomplish. Here is a list of some of the things, replace or repair damaged barrier fence, Install new wind sock, chance oil and filters on mowers, replace or sharpen mower blades, set up irrigation system. Great news, Harry and Caje have completed rebuilding the Yazoo mower deck. It was a big project. Harry took the deck to his workshop and found most of the bottom was rusted away. He and Caje welded a new steel plate that completely covers the bottom of the deck. The deck has been reinstalled and works great. Thanks guys!

New Business Elmer McKay gave a report of Jason Taylor's status. He stated Jason is willing to continue doing his secretary duties but, due to his work schedule he will not be able to attend meetings Dana Morgan volunteered to update the membership list to current members and send out an email reminding members that dues must be received before April 1, 2016 in order to avoid the extra $20.00 late fee. A discussion was held on how to attach the bottom of the barrier fence. Either use conduit or just a piece of wire. A motion was made and approved to use the conduit. After a discussion to change the meeting day, a motion was made and approved to keep it on the last Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM. President Harry Semenko stated that anyone who needs all season flyers patches let him know and the club will order the types needed. After a discussion a motion was made and approved to raise the price of drinks at the field from $0.50 cents to $1.00. It was noted that Denny's in Fruitland has a room that seats 50 people which may be reserved, with an order from the menu being required.
