Lidl is first UK supermarket to offers MSC-certified lobster with Canadian catch
Lidl has become the first UK supermarket to sell a whole MSC-certified lobster.
The wild-caught whole lobsters, which launched in Lidl stores nationwide today (rsp: £4.99), are sourced from
a fishery in New Brunswick, Canada.
Small-scale fisherman use small boats and baited traps to catch the lobsters, which are cooked and
frozen locally before being shipped to the UK.
Lidl has worked with the MSC over the past year to build up its range of certified sustainable fish and
shellfish. Nearly half (41%) of its wild seafood products are now MSC-labelled, a 24% increase on 2014, and 100% of its fresh wild caught fish MSC-
certified.

Marks & Spencer shuts down website due to technical glitch
Marks & Spencer has apologised for a data breach that forced it to suspend its website for two hours after customers were able to view other people’s personal details when logging into their accounts

The retailer blamed a technical issue, and said it acted quickly to resolve the problem. It stressed
that it was not hacked by a third party and that no one’s financial details were compromised.
A spokesman said: “Due to a technical issue we temporarily suspended our website yesterday
evening. This allowed us to thoroughly investigate and resolve the issue and quickly restore service
for our customers. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Aldi to become highest-paying UK supermarket with £8.40 per hour move
Aldi is to become the highest-paying major supermarket in the UK after announcing a new
minimum wage of £8.40 per hour for staff.
The pay rise beats the £8.20 hour to be paid by rivals Morrisons and Lidl and bring Aldo above the threshold
by the Living Wage Foundation.
Staff working in London stores will be paid £9.45 per hour.
“Just as Aldi won’t be beaten on the low prices of our products, we are also committed to offering the best
pay and benefits in the industry,” said Aldi UK & Ireland CEO Matthew Barnes.
