Built in 1915, Located at 10thStreet and 1st Avenue North,Fort Dodge, IA. This magnificentbuilding in a Greco/Roman clas-sical style with dome andcolumns was completed in 1915.Its interior follows what is called the Akron Sunday School Planwhich was popular before World War I. It featured a large audi-torium style sanctuary with a balcony which consisted of class-rooms opening onto the main sanctuary. It also provided a com-munity center with a gymnasium. The bells in the tower are amemorial to Senator Jonathon P. Dolliver, who was a member ofthe church.
The church has achieved additional fame because of a novel,“One Foot in Heaven,” written by Hartzell Spence, a noted author, about hia family’s experience in the church in which his fatherwas the pastor. The novel was later made into popular Hollywoodmovie and a play.
