Mariveles is a 1st class municipality in the province of Bataan,Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 85,779 people in 19,460households. Population growth rate per annum is 4.71 %, twice that of the province itself.

Mariveles is located in a cove at the southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula. It is about 173

kilometers from Manila via the North Luzon Expressway, Gapan-Olongapo Road and Roman

Highway. It has a total land area of 153.9 km representing 12 % of the total land area of Bataan.

Of this, about 69 % consist of the pastureland, 19 % of forestland, 6 % agricultural lands and the

remaining 6 % for residential and industrial use. Agricultural resources include rice, mangoes,

legumes, vegetables and coffee. It also has aquatic resources like round scads, grouper, mussel,

and abalone; mineral deposits of granite and basalt and forest products like vines and bamboo.

Mariveles takes pride as the host of the very first economic zone in the country, the Bataan

Economic Zone (formerly Bataan Export Processing Zone

In line with our governments thrust to provide quality and accessible education for ouryouth and our international commitment to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals

pertaining to Education For All (EFA), the undersigned has the honor to request assistance from

your good office for the construction of additional classrooms for MARIVIVELES NATIONALHIGH SCHOOL (Poblacion), Mariveles, Bataan.

School Year 2012-2013 is the first year of implementation of the Department of

Educations K to 12 Program. Considering the present situation of the said school with the

highest student population in the Division of Bataan numbering 3424 students and experiencing

classroom shortage and student classroom ratio of 1: 60, it will be difficult to achieve theobjectives of the said program.

With 3424 students and 65 classrooms, corridors such as this can result tostampede especially during emergencies i.e. earthquake and fire.

Due to small land area, some classrooms are located near a creek and prone

to flood.

Makeshift classrooms are utilized to accommodate the growing number of

students.

These chairs were provided by the local government of Mariveles but due to

classroom shortage they are not yet utilized.
