ABEAM – Brazilian offshore support companies association

WILSON SONS – Shipyard , tug operator and offshore operator

The offshore activities in Brazil date back to late seventies, a period in which

Petrobras began oil and gas exploration at sea. The incipient infrastructure to

support the new activity at the time, contrasts with its current force.

The remarkable growth of this segment in the national economy, initially aimed at

the supply and support the operations of drilling platforms and oil exploration inthe supply and support the operations of drilling platforms and oil exploration in

the Campos Base, was boosted by recent discoveries and investments in the pre-

salt filed.

This expansion, unprecedented in history, is followed with great interest by global

players and will be discussed by industry experts, which indicate the different

demands, as well as trends and opportunities to be explored.

The modernization and expansion plans of Petrobras' fleet (PROMEFs I and II), as

Transpetro), are primarily responsible for the return of shipbuilding in Brazil.

On the other hand, VALE also has ambitious plans underway to expand the fleet On the other hand, VALE also has ambitious plans underway to expand the fleet

through the construction of vessels of different sizes, in special the VLOC (very large

ore carriers) bulkers of 400,000 tons for the iron ore trade.

The heating of the shipbuilding industry, driven by the resources of the Merchant

Marine Fund and financing from BNDES, has been encouraging not only the

appearance but also the strong business expansion in the sector, with record

investment in the entire chain of production in contention for the growing number

of orders. This scenario of strong growth and opportunities will be scrutinized by

market professionals, backed by consideration and analysis.
