Pacifica competing at the Ramona NJROTC Drill Meet January 16th
First Half of the School Year is Complete! Our cadets have endured and accomplished so much in the last 6 months.
Modernization, new policies, new positions, competitions, and everyday
challenges.
Nothing could have defined our status like our December Area Manager’s
Inspection. Commander Liles was astounded throughout the day by our
cadets’ professionalism. The personnel inspection went so well that he had
to come up with new strategies in an effort to stump our cadets. Over 30
cadets were advanced to a higher rank and our staff impressed the Area 11
Manger during their staff brief.
The results arrived in January with our program receiving an Overall Out-
standing! The highest grade possible! This can all be attributed to cadet
LCDR Baylee Shlichtman and her staff. Not only did they perform above and
beyond expectations, they did so earlier in the year than they ever had be-
fore.
The program will be busy the next few months. National Academic Exam,
Super Brawl, the annual Soccer game with Santiago AJROTC and Military
Ball. Thank you for your continued support of our cadets! What a rewarding
time for our program!

Pacifica High School NJROTC Quarterly Newsletter February 2016
Farewell Mr. Davis! After ten years with the Mariners, AC1 informed the cadets that he would be head-
ing back home to the East Coast at the end of the Semester. Since 2005, Mr.
Davis worked under four Naval Science Instructors while mentoring over 1500
Pacifica cadets.
The cadets will always have fond memories of his entertaining philosophies
regarding the existence of chickens, the legitimacy of clouds, black holes in space,
wondering electrons, and his love for Star Trek.
He made a lasting impression on the community, Pacifica High School, the stu-
dents, and the program. The cadets will fondly remember that he was approacha-
ble and always enjoyed a good debate. Always quick to laugh and smile, but one
was lucky to catch that smile on camera. If someone was able to grab such a
photo, it was quickly shared for bragging rights and proof.
He introduced the annual Cadet Chess Tournament , which will continue in the
program. He always made a point to get “first rate” Boba with his Color Guard
after events.
The Mariner cadets wish Mr. Davis nothing but the best in this new chapter in his
life.
CO’s Corner
As if enough change hadn’t
already happened, our NSI of over
ten years made the decision to
retire this quarter. There were
quite a few shocked cadets. After
all, he had been with the Seniors
every year since they were Fresh-
man. Most of the students were
saddened immensely by his un-
timely departure, and throughout
the month of January, many of
them did their best to cherish the
time they had left with him.
Upon his departure, the two
class system at the beginning of
the year converged into one, with
all further instruction carried out
by LT. While it was unfortunate
he left in the middle of the school
year, I believe that this move will
improve our discipline and unity.
There have been a few hiccups,
as to be expected with abrupt
change, but overall this will help
the younger cadets gain recogni-
tion and provide a great opportuni-
ty to contribute to the program.
Ultimately, we are still in the same
boat, no matter who Captains our
ship. I’m still here too, and I know
that my family will only grow
stronger through this, as long as
we remember to reach out to each
other. Until then, patience. The
storm is nearly passed, and the
calm will be all the more beautiful.

Mariner Cadets at the 2016 Ramona Drill Meet.
Ramona Drill Meet 16 January 2016 On January 16th the Mariners traveled to Ramona California to compete against
18 other units at the Ramona Qualifier. Our cadets competed against National
juggernauts Troy, Westview, Lemoore, and Paloma Valley. Although we were
unable to qualify for this year’s Area 11 Super Bowl, we managed to place in eve-
ry physical fitness competition and gained some great experience and insight for
the future.
Commanding Officer cadet LCDR Baylee Shlichtman stated that this was the first
event where Pacifica brought 40 cadets to compete in the last 4 years. Our drill
teams performed very well. Our team commanders were Patrick Nguyen, Andrew
Do, Kyle Lanham, Nicole Rodarte, and Damon Bui. Each should be commended
on the time they have dedicated this year for our program. Many hours after
school, before school, and on weekends were sacrificed to make our teams
stronger. Some cadets even stepped out of their “comfort zone” to try something
new simultaneously gaining confidence and new friends.
Cadet Emily Gamboa received an individual award for completing 270 curl ups!
Bravo Zulu to all of the Mariners’ competition drill teams on a very productive year!
