Marine Technologywith OffshoreEngineeringBEng HonoursUCAS code H3553 Years
Our professionally accredited three-yearOffshore Engineering BEng Honours degree isgeared to the demands of the offshoreengineering industry, but with a solid basis inengineering fundamentals.
Offshore engineers focus on the design and operation offixed and floating structures which service the offshoreenergy industry. They require knowledge of key engineeringskills, which they apply to industry-specific challenges.
After learning the fundamentals of marine technology in yourfirst two years, you'll move on to specialist modules in:
• offshore design• marine structures• offshore engineering
You will gain the ability to design and produce fixed andfloating offshore oil and gas production installations, and thecrafts which service them.
Highlights of this degreeProfessional accreditation*This degree is professionally accredited by the EngineeringCouncil through the Royal Institution of NavalArchitects (RINA) and the Institute of Marine Engineering,Science and Technology (IMarEST).
This means future employers will recognise the qualityof your degree because it meets highprofessional standards.
It also means both our BEng and MEng degrees provide apathway to becoming a chartered engineer, charteredscientist, chartered marine scientist or an incorporatedengineer.
*All professional accreditations are reviewed regularly bytheir professional body.
Fast track your careerOur professionally accredited degrees set you on the routeto Chartered Engineer (CEng) status – one of theworld’s best recognised professional qualifications.
Both our BEng and MEng degrees provide a pathway tobecoming a Chartered Engineer.
Our Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees:
• are considered a more direct route to becomingchartered
• completely satisfy the academic requirements to achievethis professional qualification
• you don't undertake any further study on the route tochartered status
Our three-year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees:
• can also lead to Chartered Engineer status later in yourcareer
• you'll need to undertake a further period of study, suchas an accredited or approved Master’s degree, orappropriate further learning to Master’s level
• are suitable for international students who don’t needBritish Chartered Engineer status
Find out more about the benefits of becoming a CharteredEngineer on the Engineering Council’s website.
Transfer from a BEng to an MEng degree is possible up tothe end of third year if you achieve the appropriate academicstandard.
Transfer between marine technology degree specialisms isalso possible up to the end of your second year.
Boost your employability with a work placementApply to spend 9 to 12 months on an optional workplacement between Stages 2 and 3. You can apply tospend your placement year with any organisation and willreceive University support to do so.
You’ll gain first-hand experience of working in the sector, putting your learning into practice and developing yourprofessional expertise.
It will extend your degree by a year and is subject toavailability.
