Black & Veatch and Schneider Electric USA have formed a joint venture to design and build a best-in-class microgrid at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar in San Diego, California. MCAS Miramar is a proven leader in renewable energy deployment. The installation utilizes power generated with biogas from a local landfill, solar hot water systems, and solar photovoltaic (PV) generation.

The completed microgrid solution will: ●● Generate redundant electrical power●● Provide support services to the central grid●● Help the installation reduce its utility demand charges●● Manage overall energy load●● Facilitate participation in demand response programs●● Enhance future renewable energy deployment●● Bolster cybersecurity practices base-wide

In addition to Black & Veatch and Schneider Electric, the Miramar microgrid project team also includes other entities, such as Larco Development, the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the Foristar Methane Group. The microgrid will be fully commissioned in 2018.

MCAS MIRAMAR ●● MCAS Miramar is home to more than 15,000  service members and their families.●● The base serves Marines and Sailors from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.●● The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing’s mission is to provide combat ready expeditionary aviation forces

capable of short notice worldwide deployment to Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) fleet and unified commanders.
