The main concept for Anderbend Library was exploring the possibilities of spatial defi nition with shelving. With a shelving system that includes an eye-level gap for visibility, the space suggests me-andering paths for users as they peruse books and happen upon read-ing rooms.

The exterior of the building also works to create spaces on either side of the dividing wallls. Deep, covered recesses function as a series of outdoor rooms, safe from the rain.

THE LILYPAD NEW ORLEANS BATHHOUSE

The Lilypad utilizes a column grid for support, but uses the columns as stems for the lilypad baths. The third fl oor includes several circu-lar baths so that users may fl oat in individual pond-like environments. Below this “surface,” are the larger pools, that look up at the lowered bases of the lilypads. The whimsical theme is also represented at the main desk upon entry.
