�e B Com programme of the college has got a global recognition with the accreditation from ACCA, UK recently. �e professional orientation embedded in the B Com curriculum ensures that students get a strong footing in accounting and legal profession. Along with B Com students can join for additional training in profes-sional programs such as CA (IPCC Level) and CMA (Intermediate) and ACCA (9 papers and BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University).Only meritorious students with right attitude are selected for these additional training. At present 46 students joined the �rst batch of ACCA this year. 20 students are undergoing training for CA and CMA. Students who have opted for ACCA can complete 9 papers of ACCA with an option to do an international degree in BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, England.�e B Com Programme is also enriched with a host of non credit courses to further enhance students professional and personal skills. ACCA at Marian College, Kuttika-nam (Autonomous) – How is it Di�erent?

Marian College, Kuttikanam (Autonomous) is an accredited institution of ACCA and BCom syllabus is approved by ACCA. �e college is providing an opportunity for students to study ACCA along with B Com and qualify �rst two levels of ACCA – Knowledge Level and Skill Level.

�ere are a total 9 papers in Knowledge Level and Skill Level and out of that 6 papers are exempted. Remaining 3 papers need to be completed along with B Com – 1 Paper each year. Students who wish to secure BSc in Applied Accounting need to complete one project and one ethics module in the 3rd year.


What are the other specialities of B Com at Marian?

Coaching classes for Foundation Level and Intermediate Level of Chartered Accountancy course (CA) by �e Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Cost and Management Accountant (CMA) course by �e Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI). Business Process Services (BPS) is integrated into B Com syllabus from next academic year and extra training will be provided by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Is there any possibility of additional quali�cations along with B Com?

Students opting for ACCA have an opportunity to secure an international degree, BSc [Hons] Degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, England. �is additional degree is given to students who successfully complete 3 papers of ACCA (F7, F8, F9) and one research project along with ethics module.

What is the duration of the course at Marian College?

Course Duration is the same as the duration of B Com - 3 year. During these 3 year students have to write and pass 3 exams and submit a research project.

Why are fees highrer for ACCA than similar professional courses?

As this quali�cation is o�ered by the ACCA, UK, it is bit expensive as compared to CA o�ered by Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. �e fees of ACCA are higher as it is an international course.

What is the di�erence between ACCA or CA or CMA?

CA and CMA are professional quali�cations provided by Indian Institution. Whereas ACCA is a Global Professional Quali�cation provided by the International Associ-ation. CA and CMA requires more than 3 years to complete after BCom. But ACCA can be completed within 1 year of completing B Com.


Does ACCA have Statutory Powers in India?

Only Chartered Accountants quali�ed from ICAI are authorized to sign the audit report and Financial Statements in India. An ACCA is not authorized to attest the �nancial statements in India. However, given the wider reach globally, a student seeking a global career can have a brighter future.

How to complete ACCA (Remaining 4 Subjects in Professional Level)?

After completing B Com along with 9 papers of ACCA, students can complete Professional Level of ACCA within 1 year. 4 papers of Professional Level can be studied along with PG Courses or Along with Job.

How to study ACCA and B Com together and is it possible for students to do B Com and ACCA together?

All the 9 papers in the Knowledge Level and Skill Level are integrated in the Syllabus of BCom and out of that, 6 papers are exempted by ACCA. For the remaining 3 papers additional classes will be provided during the three year.Since the curriculum is already integrated or embedded in the BCom syllabus, which allows students to focus on one standardized study approach and hence the students will be able write their B Com exams along with the ACCA papers.

What is the strategy for providing practical exposure to students?

�ough not required as per ACCA quali�cations, Practical Training / Internship for 2 months (1 month each in 1st and 2nd year) in a well-established organization will be arranged in association with ACCA, India.

When are ACCA exams conducted? What is the Duration?

ACCA conducts Computer Based Exams (CBE) on March, June, September and December every year at Centres authorized by ACCA. Exams are for 100 marks and the duration of Exam is around 3 hours and students are required to obtain 50% of marks to clear each subject. Kochi is one of the nearest test destination approved by ACCA.


How will classes for Non exempted Papers F7, F8 and F9 be conducted and Who all are taking classes?

Classes are usually conducted on Fridays and Saturdays excluding Second Saturday. Hostelers will be given guided study time each day from 6-8 pm. Classes will be provided by experienced faculties with ACCA quali�cation mostly sourced from out-side the institution.

Financial Bene�ts for students pursue ACCA integrated BCom?

• Students will get �nancial bene�ts between 60,000 to 80,000.

• A discount on the £ 20 payable as registration fees to ACCA

• A waiver on the exemption fees for the �rst 6 papers as well as the Annual Subscription fees for the �rst year

Why Marian has opted for 6 paper exemp-tion instead of 9 papers which some institu-tions claim?�e decision to go for 6 paper exemption was taken considering the views of many experts in the �eld. Too many exemptions may lead to underating of such students by industry. �e option to do B Sc in Applied Accounting is also not available to such students. Moreover, moving to professional level directly may be gruesome as students have little or no exposure to ACCA examinations. �e present arrangement of 6 paper exemption will ensure that students will have an adequate understanding of subjects.
