Dear Marco Cruise Club Friends:

What a wonderful ending to a season that had started out very problematic due to the Covid virus! The activities during the month of May, including the Marathon trip, were tremendously successful and forecasts a great season for next year.

Many new active members joined our club this year bringing with them energy, enthusiasm, and a love for boating and fellowship. The upcoming year has a variety of activities scheduled that will, hopefully, continue the positive momentum and keep club members engaged and fulfill their desire for social and boating events.

A few dates to put on your calendars: Saturday, November 6th “Welcome Back to Season” party, Tuesday, December 14th “MCC Christmas Party”, Thursday, January 20th Commodore’s Ball. Please refer to upcoming Lubbers Line for details on each event.

Personally, Julie and I are headed back to the Adirondacks next week for the summer season. We will miss boating and friends down here, but look forward to a fun-filled season resuming in the fall.

Although the club does not have an official schedule of events for June, July, August and September, Vice Commodore Bob Madaio has offered to co-ordinate informal get-togethers during these months. If you are on Marco and would like to have a spontaneous outing, please contact Bob and he will be able to assist you.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer wherever you are spending it. Stay safe, healthy and happy boating!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in October!

VICE COMMADORE REPORT

Hi all.

These past few weeks have certainly had some fun activities. We had great turn outs from our members for the Anglers Adventure followed by lunch at Paradise Found, the Everglades City boat trip to the Rod and Gun Club and the Cruise and Lunch at K-Rico restaurant in Naples. A big Thank You to all the event sponsors.

However, summer is now here and the club will be slowing down until October. That said, we hope to try some ad-hoc boat trips for those who are here during the summer months. Anyone thinking about a boat trip to the beach, a restaurant, a tie-up or even an overnight trip please contact me and I will help coordinate and broadcast a notice to all members and see who may be interested.

Wishing everyone a safe and healthy summer.

Beach Picnic By Charlie Schwalje

The annual beach picnic was held at Cape Romano. The weather was beautiful with sunny

skies, a light breeze and perfect temperature.

Sometimes you just get lucky.

Our group consisted of 16 members in seven boats.

We had a nice section of the beach to ourselves and experienced an afternoon of eating, drinking and

good conversation while enjoying a spectacular Gulf view.

As a bonus, we had a rising tide so no boats were left stranded on the beach.

Cinco de Mayo by Donna Babb The Marco Cruise Club celebrated Cinco de Mayo with lunch at K Rico Restaurant in Naples during a May 6 event hosted by members Joe Lagano and his wife, Carol. Some MCC members boated from Marco up the intracoastal Waterway to Naples Bayfront harbor, while others drove to meet up for the event. “It was a wonderful opportunity for new cruisers to acquaint themselves with seasoned members,” said Lagano, “while we all enjoyed a bit of spice in celebration of this ethnic cuisine.” Following the meal MCC member Sally Cage was the lucky raffle winner of a salsa bowl and kitchen tea towel set.

Marco Cruise Club Has the Key to Fun Outing by Donna Babb The Marco Cruise Club recently took a trip southward to Marathon Key for three nights of spring fun and fishing. Eight boats made the journey from Marco Island to Marathon, berthing at Faro Blanco Yacht Club & Resort for three nights. The group, which consisted of 38 MCC members and their family members, included a poolside welcome reception at the Marriott Courtyard hotel, mixing cocktails with a bit of fun in the form of game such as musical chairs, MCC member Rosemary Harty was fastest in the game: “I hadn’t played musical chairs since I was a kid” she laughed. Other social events including a quiz game, dice game and a few jello shots made for a festive time, but the highlight of the trip was a fishing competition organized by Judy Lange. MCC Commodore Todd Whitney took the prize with a 54” Amberjack, followed by Lisa Raymer with a 41” Amberjack. Brenda and Gary Papszycki won the prize for most fish caught – they couple netted 50 fish total. “Not a bad haul for a quick trip,” said Whitney. Terry and Lisa Raymer hosts for the trip are planning more events now that the COVID vaccinations have become widespread.
