DP TODD AWARDS EVENING

The DP Todd Awards Evening is Tuesday, June 12th at 7:00 PM

in the school gymnasium. Add this date on your calendar.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT NEWS

Huge thank you and congratulations to all our musicians for a tremendous Disney Concert earlier this month. Our students and parents showed overwhelming commitment to making it such a success even on such a snowy evening and I am truly grateful. The following day, a shortened version of the concert was performed for the school and was also very well received. At both concerts, the audience area was full and the crowd was happy and pleasure to perform for. Next on the band calendar is the Local MusicFest Fanfare Band Festival at Vanier Hall. We are entering our four concert bands and two jazz bands that will perform for judges at some point during April 11

th and 12

th. Thank you to our PAC for

their support in this endeavor with Festival Fees. There may be a small bussing fee for bands that perform during the school day. More information will be coming home about this. Soon after festival, our band trip begins. This trip to Sun Peaks runs from Wednesday April 25

th - Sunday April 29

th and

includes students from grades 9 - 12 who have registered. Soon specific Band Trip rehearsals will commence. A pre-trip parent meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday April 18

th at 6:30 PM and at this meeting parents will receive the

finalized itinerary, a run-down of my expectations and their band account pay-out cheque for those of you who have money left in their band accounts. FUNDRAISING:

The bottle depots are still receiving bottles - just ask for the money to go into the DP Todd Band Bottle Account and bring me (Mrs. Klein) your receipt with your name on it. You will be credited the full amount into your band account.

Purdy's Easter Chocolates are still running. Final day for orders online is Sunday March 4th

. Pick up will be Thursday, March 15

th in the band room. Don't forget to pick up your order or Mrs. K will have an extra sweet

Easter. See Mrs. Klein for Save-on and Superstore Gift cards. For more information about our Fundraising procedures, please see the Band Policy on my school website. Contact Mrs. Klein if you are NOT receiving the band updates via email.

Did you know . . . the Disney Intro (Castle) music at our Disney Concert was arranged by one of our own, Rebecca Kokesch - Grade 11 Trumpet Player. Thanks Rebecca! Sincerely, Mrs. Klein

LIBRARY NEWS

There are 123 textbooks overdue from the fall semester. Please check with your teen and then send back any that you find at your home. Unreturned and lost textbooks result in significant additional loss to the school, so your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciate.

LEADERSHIP NEWS

The final semester of the school year finds Leadership students continuing to work hard for their school community. January, February and March saw Leadership students hosting several activities around Valentine's Day. We were also active with Todd's Team, the school booster group that came out to cheer for our teams around the city. We are now in preparation for group activities that will help usher in the warmer weather and channel adolescent energy in a positive manner. DP Todd will be entering a team in the Relay for Life; if you would like to support our team - and cancer research - please contact Mr. Balazs so that he can connect you to the right people. Continue to check out the school web page for more information.

Course selection for 2018/19 will be happening soon, so it is important that parents understand how students are selected for Leadership. The Leadership Program will see many changes in the upcoming year as we adapt to the newly revised curriculum standards. This will include restructuring the course into three levels with the possibility for Grade 10 students to take the course. These changes will be explained and reflected in the course selection book and on the school website.

ABORIGINAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT NEWS

SPRING BREAK TRIP TO . . .JAPAN!

Yes folks, the Spring Break trip is back for 2019, but this time it is going in the opposite direction! This year, Ms.

Clancy and Mr. Leitch will be chaperoning a group of students to JAPAN! We have already had an information meeting for students at the school in February and another shortly after for everyone. There are still spaces available. More information is available on the DP Todd Travel Club web site - follow the link on the school web site - or by contacting Ms. Faith Clancy: [email protected]

• In a nutshell, here is the most important information:

• Who: Any student currently in grades 8-11

• Where: Japan

• When: Spring Break 2019 (10-12 days @ the end of March)

• Cost: About $4500 + additional taxes

• We have had a good start to the year with numerous Elders and speakers in to help with new curriculum and more are planned for semester 2.

• Our Textiles 12 class worked hard on creating a button blanket for DP Todd; we are looking forward to having a place for it to hang for all to see soon.

• Our FOCI Leader is working closely with DP Todd’s Outdoor Ed class and has already presented “Tough Guise” to the Transitions classes as well as the Pre-Employment Program.

• If I can be of assistance to your family please don't hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to meeting more families now that the initial rush is done. I can be found at parent teacher nights as well as in my office (sometimes) in room 156 if you want to stop by and say hi.

• We will also be starting a drum group on Wednesdays 2-3 PM in the band room. We will be learning as we go, if you are a drummer (or want to be) feel free to join us.

• If you or family members have a skill that we can use throughout the year, please contact Suzanne Dallman at DP Todd AB ED department – 250-562-9525.
