50 Years of Television On March 1, 1965, at 10:00 inthe morning, students from 125elementary and secondary schools witnessed something revolutionary: television in the classroom. WPSX-TV signedon with 15 new educationalprograms, ranging from SaludosAmigos to Primary Concepts inMath, that would air each schoolday.

In June 1965, the station addedevening educational and current-affairs programming to fulfillthe vision of extending theresources of Penn State to theentire community.

Through the years, WPSXTV,renamed WPSU-TV in2005, has grown into a nationalinnovator, experimenting withmedia to deliver educationalcontent to audiences in CentralPennsylvania and beyond.For example, the 2012 onlinecourse, beekeeping101.psu.edu, brought in registrants fromevery state and nearly everycountry across the globe.

The 2013 documentary, WaterBlues, Green Solutions, iscurrently broadcast by PBSstations all over the US andinternationally, and maintainsa living library of onlineeducational resources forsecondary- and higher-educationcourse use.

On March 1, 2015, WPSU celebrates many accomplish-ments and looks to our future —integrating technology across the media landscape and enhancingaudience experiences.

You’ll also be able to watch liveprograms simulcast on TV andonline, and we’ll give you evenmore ways to give feedback andjoin the conversation.

In April 2015, we invite you totry out two TV/online viewingparties when you’ll havethe opportunity to chat withproducers and special guests.

With this expansion of services,we are proud to introduce a newname and a new look, WPSUPenn State. We’ve always beenpart of Penn State, and we wantto continue our tradition ofdelivering university resourcesalong with outstanding PBSprogramming to you.
