March Newsletter 2020
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the Balwyn Ever-
green Newsletter. We do hope
2020 has started well for you!
Over the next two months the
Newsletter will be undergoing
changes, so that programs and
activities you are interested in
can be easier to locate. Feel
free to contribute feedback on
the information that you want
to see included in this news-
letter.
Following Simone Arndt’s
appointment as Exercise Co-
ordinator in January this year,
we have reviewed the exercise
program and the exercise
timetable. The timetable has
been recast to better describe
the activity in each class. New
programs are planned, and
will be rolled out over the
next two months.
On the 1st July 2019, the Aged
Care Quality Standards were
introduced. The change has
resulted in a rewrite of BEC
Policies, Procedures and Risk
Management/Safety practices.
The Standards focus on Con-
sumer Choice and Outcomes.
During March, BEC will be
audited by ACQS to check if
our processes and actions are
in alignment with the Stand-
ards. There are eight Stand-
ards; over the next 8 months
we will feature one of the
Standards.
During the latter part of 2019,
we conducted a Consumer
Survey; future Newsletters
will outline the results of that
Survey. Thank you to all who
participated.
The overriding focus of all
our processes is the safety of
our Consumers, Staff and
Volunteers.
We wish you an enjoyable and
active month at Balwyn Ever-
green.

BEC Exercise Program
Whatever your fitness level, we have a program tailored to make sure that everyone can stay active - with three different levels of exercise intensity. Whether you’d like to keep active and stay fit, or whether you’d prefer a more gentle and less intense workout, our workout program has options to suit those of all abilities.
The BEC exercise program is an excellent way to build energy and endurance to maintain an active lifestyle. Our exercise program aims to increase flexibility and mo-bility, enhance quality of life, increase energy and vitality, reduce risk of falls and injuries, and improve muscular strength. We also aim to build endurance, balance, cardio-vascular health and self-esteem in a friendly and welcom-ing environment.

Social Support Individual Program
Page 4 March Newsletter 2020 balwynevergreen.org.au
If you need some support to remain socially active in the community, our Social Support volunteers can help to engage with you and assist you in remaining self-sufficient.
Our volunteers are very friendly and more than happy to have a chat and a cuppa if you’re feeling isolated, helping you to reconnect or remain connected with the wider community. They can also give you a daily call and keep in touch.
For many people, pets are the most important companion in their lives. However, illness or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone. Our Social Support Individual program helps frail older people and people with disa-bilities to care for their animal companions at home.
Regular exercise helps keep your pets happy and healthy. If illness, injury or other changes in circumstances prevents you from walking your dog, a SSI volunteer can help.
Light Home and Garden Care
On top of mowing, cleaning gutters or trimming hedges, our gardeners will be able to assist with many light home maintenance.
This includes tasks such as:
Window Cleaning
Replacing smoke alarm batteries
Replacing tap washers
Connecting sprinkler systems
Any other small home repairs
Accompanied Appointments and Shopping
Balwyn Evergreen Centre can help you access and remain involved in the local community.
We can accompany you to things like :
