Some years earlier, Geoffrey re-

WHAT EASTER MEANS TO US
We live in a society which turns
religious events into commercial
opportunities,whichiswhyEast-
eriscloselyassociatedwithchoc-
olate eggs andEaster bunnies. It
iseasyformanytoforgetthesig-
nificance of Easter and the posi-
tiveimpactthatitcanhaveonour
lives. Christ's resurrection is the
foundation of Christian faith,
therefore we think that it is im-
portanttofocusontheideaspro-
vided by the scripture. Corinthi-
ans 15:54says "thesaying that is
writtenwillcometrue-deathhas
been swallowed up in victory", a
concept which is connected with
Christ and his resurrection. By
acceptingJesusasoursaviourwe
too will conquer death and re-
ceive the reward of everlasting
life.
The accounts of the gospels in-
form us that Jesus was raised
from the dead after being cruci-
fied and it is this process which
enables salvation through Jesus,
whoactedasasacrifice forallas
long as we believe in Him. Ro-
mans6:23summarises this idea-
"forthewagesofsinisdeath,but
the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord".
We think that it is important to
spread the good news because it
recognises what Christ has done
for us. We should celebrate this
event with joy and never forget
thetruemeaning-thatistheleast
wecoulddoafterthetorturethat
Christenduredforhumanity.

PRAYER CORNER
ThekeytounderstandinghowJe-sus couldpray toGod the Fatheris found in Hebrews 2:17:"Therefore[Jesus]hadtobemadelikehisbrothersineveryrespect."One of the important callings ofall people is to pray. Jesus wasfully human as well as fullyGod,anditwasperfectlyfittingthatHeshouldpraytotheFatherinheav-en. ThereareseveralreasonswhyJe-sus, as a human being, prayed tothe Father. First, all people arecalled to worship God. Prayer isone form of worship. Second, as a Jew, Jesus was ful-fillingtheLawofMosestopraytothe LORD. If He did not pray toGod the Father, He would havebeen disobedient and sinful. Third, as our high priest, JesusintercedesonbehalfofGod'speo-ple (Hebrews2:17).We seeJesusacting as intercessor in John 17,sometimes called the "HighPriestly Prayer." A fourth reason forJesusprayingto the Father is found in John11:41-42.Inthispassage,Jesus praysbeforeHeraisesLazarus
from the dead: "Father, I thankyou that you have heard me. Iknewthatyoualwayshearme, but I said this onaccountof thepeo-ple standing around, that theymaybelievethatyousentme."So,one reason Jesus prayed to theFatherwasforthebenefitofthosearound Him. Fifth, Jesus prayed to the Fathertoenjoythe fellowshipof theTri-uneGodhead of Father, Son, andHolySpirit. Sometimes, theBiblesimply says, "Jesus prayed," yetother times we see a glimpse ofsomethingmore.FollowingJesus'baptism, He prayed, and "theheavenswereopened,andtheHo-lySpiritdescendedonhiminbod-ily form, like a dove; and a voicecame from heaven, 'You are mybeloved Son; with you I am wellpleased'" (Luke 3:21-22). Here,withinthecontextofaprayer,Fa-ther, Son, and Spirit are all re-vealed in perfect fellowship. Jesus prayed to God the Fatherbecause it was an appropriate, natural, and essential part ofHismission on earth. His prayers setanexampleforusgrowinintima-cywithourHeavenlyFather.

JOKES AND PUZZLES
9
I am one of 5, chosen by 1 of 8
I am mighty small, but by me the
Mighty fall
Drawn up from the depths, I am
aimed at the heights
I was found where I had sunk and I
sank where I was flung
I'm in the Bible - what am I?
I can be carried but not touched
I have two on the outside and ten on
the inside
Everyone wants to catch a sight of me
But I'm kept out of sight
I was lost and found; then found but
now I am lost
I'm in the Bible - what am I?
