India: BRPL evinces Interest in Partnering with SAIL

Brahmani River Pellets Limited (BRPL), a

subsidiary of the London based Stemcor

group has evinced interest in tying up with

public sector steel maker SAIL for

utilization of the unused low grade fines.

SAIL is looking for partners for utilizing its

unused low grade Iron ore fines laying at

several mines heads located in Odisha &

Jharkhand. A senior official

of SAIL has estimated that the amount of

low grade fines stashed at the mines head

would be about 10 MnT and out of this

more than 3-4 MnT of fines laying in

Odisha (Bolani mines) itself. “Yes, we

would surely like to explore the opportunity

and we are open to partner with SAIL for

the purpose”, said ND Rao, MD of BRPL.

India: Power cut in Andhra hiked Steel Prices by INR 1,000/MT W-o-W

Mar 04, 2014 13:39 Power cut in Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) once in a week has made

the prices dearer and forced manufacturers to increase its offers by

INR 500-1,000/MT for Ingot/Billet & Re-bar in 2-3 days. Ingot is

offered at around INR 32,300/MT, while Billet is traded at around INR

32,600-32,800/MT. Re-bar (20 mm) is traded at INR 34,500-

34,700/MT. Power cut is likely to continue till Lok Sabha Elections,

held in Apr-May, 2014 as electricity provided to industries is being

provided to farmers for crops reaping, shared an Ingot

manufacturer from Hyderabad. SteelMint in a discussion with a Re-

bar manufacturer assessed that steel prices are anticipated to drop

by INR 500-1,000/MT and there is no hope for price increment in

near term. Sluggish demand of Re-bar & Structure in Raipur has

kept Ingot/Billet offers unchanged from a week’s time. Currently,

Ingot is offered at around INR 30,100/MT and Billet at around INR

30,500/MT. In Durgapur (WB), gap between Ingot and Billet had

increased by INR 300-400MT to INR 700-800/MT (e

India: High Carbon Ferro Chrome Prices down as Buying Interest recedes

Mar 04, 2014 15:33 High Carbon Ferro Chrome prices were slightly down from last

week amid limited activity. There were very few inquiries from buyers

and few deals were concluded confirmed market participants. In the

domestic market HC Ferro Chrome prices fall on sluggish demand

from end-users. Current price for HC Ferro Chrome (60% Grade) is

around INR 71,000/MT (Ex-Works Odisha) and INR 72,000/MT (Ex-

Raigarh). Indian producers said that there was a lack of procurement

interest from domestic buyers and so most producers have

not been able to raise offers even though OMC has raised prices.

Most market participants remained uncertain about the domestic

market in the near term. [su_quote]Looking at the market condition a

trader based from Odisha remarked, “Demand has been poor over

the past one or two months and prices seem to be flattening out.

While, traders were speculating that prices are coming down as

CIL produced around 42.6 MnT of Coal during February against its target of 45.4 MnT. CIL also missed its offtake target by 2.5 MnT.
