Hello Everyone
On March 16,
before our St. Patrick's
Dinner Dance, at the
hour of 6pm, the
WOTM will be putting
on a ceremony for our
sister Junior Grad
Regent Janie Hood
who received her
degree of Green Cap in
Reno. She was entitled
to receive this for
making her honors as Senior Regent last year. Please
come early that Saturday evening to honor Janie and
witness this ceremony. During our dinner hour be-
tween 7 and 8pm, we will be having a special lady
from Sacramento to entertain us with some Irish
Dances. Followed at 8 pm with the Cottonwood Band
to climax this wonderful evening.
The 21 of March a number of us will be traveling
to Reno to attend the CA/NV Conference. Seven of
our ladies will be receiving their Academy of Friend-
ship Degree on Sunday, March 24. Our own Janie
Hood has been chosen to assist in the ceremony by
holding the station as Charity.
We have had a busy year with so many members
volunteering to make all our functions a success. Dee
Hamon is one of our special ladies that has
volunteered so faithfully. If you don’t know her, I’m
sure you will recognize her as she is that cute little
brunet that serves at dinners, memorial services and
even helps out decorating. Last month she served as
chairman and was here at the lodge selling slices of
pie. Thank you Dee for being our volunteer of the
month.
We have had two nominating meetings to choose
members who are qualified to run for elective offices
for the new year beginning May 1, 2013. We still have
time for you to volunteer to run for any of these
offices. Our last nominating meeting will be held
March 5 at 7pm. We will need these written requests
in the Women’s Office before
March 5. Please come and join us.
Until next month,
Donna Martinez, Senior Regent
Moose Members, Time is running out on my term of office. Still have things to accom-plish. We are in need of volunteers to keep the spaghetti Monday going. Would love to have a few persons or a couple step up to take over one Monday night per month to do the Spaghetti Monday Dinner. At
present, the officers have been forced to step up for Wednes-day Night Dinners, assist on Tuesday night tacos and most officers do two Sunday breakfasts. We are getting tired and need our members to step up and assist in some small capacity. Monday nights will probably cease in May if we do not get some help??? Do I sound desperate??? Probably because I am. Since I am on volunteers, we need help to paint the Lodge. As always, many hands make the work go quicker. This holds true also for cleaning. We did make some progress but we still have areas that need a special cleaning and both these tasks require volunteers. Still desperate!! Please volun-teer to help keep the Lodge home as a premier Lodge in Cali-fornia. Just a few hours here and there. We have over 800 members but only a few volunteers!!!
On a more upbeat note. Membership is up. We are plus 8 over last year which is good. March will be important. A lot of memberships expire this month and we need every-one to please renew and encourage those whose membership is expiring this month to renew. The drawing for the Nexus has been postponed until May. The board of officers has decided that everyone who recruits a member during the current Moose year starting 1 May 2012 and ending on April 30, 2013 will have an opportunity to win. For each member you recruit you will have one chance placed in the drawing. The more members you sponsor, the more your name will be in the drawing and the better your chances of winning. Keep recruiting!!!!
My Super Moose and Moosette for March are John and Carmela Perkins. They are always willing to assist around the Lodge whether cooking spaghetti for Monday dinner, baking pies for a funeral or just cleaning. There special efforts are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you do.
As you see me around the Lodge, chat with me and
give me your ideas, your thoughts,
your suggestions, both good or bad, on
ways to improve our Lodge.
Till next month,
Sahar

IMPORTANT STUFF!!!!
Yuba City Tax-Aide Program in Danger of Ending The 2012 Tax year may well be the last year that the AARP Tax Aide program will provide free tax assistant and preparation services in Yuba City. For the last 10 years, the husband and wife team of Ken Souza and Bobbie Powell have been the main force behind the AARP-Tax Aide program in the Yuba City area. Ken has served as Technology Coordinator, Training Coordinator and Counselor, all at the same time. Bobbie stepped up 7 years ago to serve as both District and Local Coordinator. Both have decided to retire from the program at the end of this season and unless new volunteers can be found to take over their responsibilities, the program will end. The Tax Aide Program is a nationwide volunteer organization, sponsored by AARP in conjunction with the IRS to provide electronic tax filing assistance to the elderly and other low and moderate income taxpayers. In 2012, the program serviced some 800 taxpayers at one of two centers (Yuba City Moose Lodge and Yuba City Senior Center). The Marysville Tax Aide Center closed in 2008. The program is in need of a Technology Coordinator, a District Coordinator and a Local Coordinator. All volunteers are welcome. You should be computer literate, well organized and enjoy interacting with others. Don’t like working with numbers?? How about being a greeter. Checking to see that all the necessary paper-work is there and keeping the clients moving to their assigned appointments. Like promoting things happen-ing in the area? Communications coordinators promote AARP Foundation Tax-Aide to potential clients from February to April and help recruit volunteers in the fall for the following tax season. If you are interested in helping please contact Ken at [email protected] or Bobbie at [email protected].

ADMINISTRATORS MARCH 2013 NOTES Time to get on my soapbox again and pass on some information. As always, we are in need of volunteers to fill the many positions in the lodge. I have posted a signup sheet with skills/jobs that we need volunteers to fill. Please sign up and I will make sure that someone calls you with information to begin volunteering. You all know, this Lodge exists because of our volunteer workers. From cooking, serving, bartending, cleaning, gardening, repairing, cashiers, door persons, and just keeping the Lodge operating for our members is totally dependent on you, our members volunteering a few hours each week. As always, please sign up on the list or discuss the possibilities with the Governor or myself. We can always find a place for you in our family to volunteer. I would like to remind our members of a few quotes as stated in our bylaws. We are a “fraternal and charitable organization”. One of our first purposes states “Unite in the bonds of fraternity, benevolence, and charity, all acceptable persons of good character”. Another is to “Render particular service to children in need by the operations of one or more vocational, educational institutions of the type and character of the institution called Mooseheart” and “Serve aged members and/or their spouses”. This service is provided by “creating and maintain-ing foundations, endowment funds, trust funds and subsidiary or related corporations”. The purpose of the Lodge is to support these goals. We also support many local charitable organizations. I wear a wrist band to remind me from time to time when I get discouraged that my job has a purpose. “It’s all about the kids”.
Speaking of kids. Do you know a high school junior in your life who could use a $1,000
scholarship. Applications for the R. Robert Dale Scholarship must be submitted by June 30,
2013. See me for the details on eligibility and an application.

Please give us a hand to keep these dinners alive, or we may have to call it quits. These dinners help our Lodge raise funds. In closing, I would like to thank Nick Eytcheson for his 2 years of service as the Lodge’s Legion Assistant Secretary. Fine job Nick!!
