The end of our constructionis in sight!!

Yes, by the end of Marchconstruction should befinished on our new Spa/Fitness facility. There will bea punch list to finish andprobably some ongoing

minor work for a week or so, but in the main thetrucks and workers will be gone and you will beenjoying your new facilities.

An update as of almost the end of Februaryfollows:

The Spa is approximately 80% completed andlooking beautiful. The furniture and equipmentis due to be delivered and installed the first 2weeks of March. We are looking forward to asoft opening to test operations at that time andwill be in full operation by the end of the month.

In the Fitness area we are working on our punchlist diligently and by the time you are readingthis a lot should be completed. Please rememberthat in this area we broke with policy andopened the area before it was 100% completed.This was done to enable you to utilize the facilityat the earliest possible time knowing that therewere certain minor deficiencies that we were stillgoing to have to work on as you exercised. Yourcooperation in this regard was and isappreciated.

The Aerobic rooms are in the process of beingfinished and floors are being installed this week.The Spinning room is complete and waiting forthe new bikes. Wait until you see the 9' x 5’ TVwall in high definition as you ride along thebeaches of Maui.

The Wellness rooms are complete and the Pilatesrooms are waiting for equipment.

The main entrance is framed and sheetrock willbe going up shortly. The Salon for pedicures,manicures and hair blowouts is also framed andwaiting for sheetrock along with the men’sbarbershop.

The Spa Cafe is being framed at present and theTennis/Fitness Pro Shop is being readied for thereceipt of fixtures along with the offices in itsrear. This area has been a cause for delay as weran into some unexpected problems while thecontractors were working on the demolition ofthe original building.. There were some solidwalls that had to come down that were notindicated on the plans and the roof reinforcedwith some steel. All was accomplished toeveryone’s satisfaction.

The Terrace, which I believe everyone is goingto love along with everything else, is presentlyserving as a holding area for supplies; there isnot much work to do in this area but to furnish.

The construction in the last three or so years hasreduced your full enjoyment of our wonderfulClub, but they are over. The metamorphosis hasbeen completed and with that we have changedsome of our Club so that our current and futuremembers will enjoy all of our amenities.Additionally we are now more than competitivewith neighboring facilities, a necessity as wecompete for new members that will enableBroken Sound to thrive going forward.

Yes, there still are some minor projects on thehorizon like the repaving of the Tennis/Fitnesscenter parking lot, the reconfiguration of thebasement of the Golf pro shop to allow foradequate bag storage, and the restructuring ofthe pool locker rooms which all have to be done.However these should not interfere with youruse of our facilities to any large degree.

There has been a lot of time put in by ourbuilding and design committees andmanagement. All was done with a passion thatthey hope you feel and enjoy, and we lookforward to discovering all that is being offered.

The 2013 golf season hasbeen one of the mostsuccessful years in recenthistory. We haveexperienced great weatherand fabulous courseconditions all year long.

With the New Year brings in many new hopesfor our golf game. We sincerely hope that thespirit of competition and good will prevails thisyear for all of our Club Members.

In December our very own BSWWGA held theirannual Holiday Charity Event. This year theladies raised over $2000 in donations for TheAmerican Association of Caregiving Youth. Theladies played 18 holes and met for lunch to raisemoney for this deserving charity.Congratulations to the BSWWGA for such awonderful job helping the community.

Starting February 1st our new numbered teemarkers have brought many compliments fromthe Membership at the Club Course. Our newtees consist of numbers rather than colors andare golfer friendly for players of all levels andskill sets. By using the suggested yardage chart,players can discover the tee that is most suitableto their game. This is just one way the ClubCourse has helped to make the game moreenjoyable for everyone.

The 2013 Men’s and Women’s Club Course MemberGuest Events were a tremendous success. Both eventscombined, touted over 400 Members and theirGuests. Ever been in the wrongplace at the wrongtime? What an uncom-fortable feeling. Youwere probably a bitunsure of yourself and

befuddled as to what to do. On the other hand,remember being in the right place at the righttime? You probably can recall all of the detailssurrounding that event. Just thinking about itconjures up some good memories!

Now let’s compare those experiences with yourtennis game. Being in a poor position on the courtmakes for poor decision making, fosters lack ofshot control and puts you in crisis mode. Being ina poor position can also put you in a state of panic.It can increase your chances of making the wrongdecision or a shot that you did not intend to make(such as a ball intended for the opponent on thebaseline being hit to the opponent at the netbecause you are standing in no-mans land).

Conversely, being in a good position on the courtallows you to see the court better by noticingwhere your opponents are (are they themselvesin good position/bad position? and where shouldthe ball be hit?). It also gives you confidence andincreases your probability of making the correctdecision. Being in the right position enables youto recognize and take advantage of opportunities(such as poaching and when to finish the point).

You have the power, so take advantage of beingin the right place at the right time: there is nothinglike it…especially on the court!

Oh my, I can’t believe it is the middle ofFebruary and I haven’t had to clear my Bocadriveway of snow even once. Seriously, theseason seems to rushing by. I am glad to reportthat we had a very nice profit realized from ourfive day Caribbean cruise and are looking intodoing another one. The football survivor poolproduced fourteen survivors. I think it is arecord. Sign up early to be included in the nextseasons games.

It was a privilege to attend our CentennialConvention and Hospital dedication in Israel.Jerusalem hosted almost 2000 Hadassahmembers, associates and some familymembers. It was especially heart warming tosee multigenerational members attending thisonce in a life time happening.

We participated in interesting, informativeand varied programs. I spent my first day withother nurses and physicians learning aboutvarious research projects taking place atHadassah. We were privileged to meet someexceptional people and participate inhonoring them for all they have done throughthe years for Hadassah. One of those was 92year old Judith Stein Friedman. She is one ofthe first graduates of the Nursing school laterbecoming its Dean. She still comes to work inher office at the hospital daily.

The official dedication of the hospital washeld at the convention center in Jerusalem.We were welcomed and thanked mosteloquently by President Shimon Peres.

The hospital is magnificent, both in itsarchitecture and function. It is very light withmany windows and indoor gardens. It is astate of the art facility, probably one of themost modern in the world. The structure is15 stories above ground and 6 below ground.

A unique facility necessitated bycircumstances in our part of the world.

Unlike the 1960 building, which had 8bedded rooms, the Davidson tower has onlydouble and single bedded rooms. The roomsare very large and set up to accommodatefamily members who often stay with the

patients. The plan is to renovate the old hospitalto house all the outpatient services.

We must also remember that in 1967 we gotback our original hospital on Mt. Scopus, afacility which we also operate. Both hospitals,care for and are staffed by, both Jews and Arabswithout distinction .

Our new challenge is equally important. Wemust help equip this hospital, so that thededicated nurses and physicians and all thosecaring for the patients can deliver the high levelof care they are so motivated and capable ofgiving.

We must help fund the research that hasalready resulted in breakthroughs in stem celltherapy and many other areas.

Remember we also help run a HadassahCollege, as well as, youth villages that take atrisk youth and offer them a place to live learnand turn their lives around.

Hadassah empowers women both in the U.S.and abroad by providing education and healthinitiatives, aiding people in making appropriatemedical decisions.

We help connect our children to Israel via ourYoung Judea programs.

Hadassah provides educational programs forHigh School students, on breast and testicularcancer screening

We have much on our plate, but, I know thatwe will continue to rise to the challenge.

Your continued support, and participation in ourprograms are vital to Hadassah’s continuedgrowth and success.

LarryStrickler, a Catskills tummler, gave us the historyof the Borscht Belt area, and Dr. Joyce Saltmanfilled in for Ronelle Delmont and was hysterical,as always. She brought non-stop laughter andlessons on the health benefits of being“optimistic”.

The demand for our out-of-club trips continuesto be great. We ran another trip to“WhiteSpace” art museum to accommodate allthose who were not able to get in last year.The trip to the Maltz Jupiter Theater was adelight. “Music Man” was as professional as onewould see on Broadway and everyone is askingus to find another play at this theater. Our tourand lunch on board Royal Caribbean’s Libertyof the Seas was delightful. Only one tripremains and that is to the Fairchild TropicalGardens in Coral Gables on March 1st which isalready sold out.

We still have 2 more wonderful luncheonmeetings . You may sign up at the front lobbydesk and remember that the cancellationdeadline is 4 days prior to the meeting.

Lately, have your thoughts turned to, how does aPoor Man’s Umbrella plant, keep a traveler dry, orwhat do Capuchin monkeys look like, or was therereally a Scientific Expansion for a particular tillansiafrom Ecuador to Costa Rica? If you answered yes, youshould have been at our Feb, 6th meeting! KenMarks, our fabulous speaker, showed all 70, of us themost beautiful photos, of very remote areas in CostaRica.

After the speaker, we raffled off over 101 unusualand unique plants. They were not the Home Depotvariety. Pat Levine donated many of her fantastic andrare bromeliads from her extensive collection.Butterfly plants were on hand for purchase.

On Monday March 18, at 4:30pm, we will be given arare chance to tour Pat Levine’s garden. She lives at2122 NW 60th Circle, in Fairway Bend. Pat, we arecoming to learn,-teach us. If you want to join usafterward for 6:00pm dinner at the club , call me (994-6747) by Feb. 28, so I can make the reservations byMarch 4. No reservations required for the tour - justcome.

Saturday, March 16, we are going to Butterfly World,for a class and private guided tour. We will departthe club at 9:00am. I will need your check for $16.00,to get our low group rate.
