There is a full time position available for a maintenance and repair per-son at St. Justin Parish. The general maintenance and repair staff will be re-sponsible for the general upkeep of the parish facilities at St. Justin and Sacred Heart Mission. It requires knowledge of plumbing and electrical repair. The person will need to be familiar with safe use of power tools and equipment. Also, the person will need to recognize when it is appropriate to bring in professionals for repairs, schedule the repair work, and ensure the work is done properly. Collection for the Church in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe Share your Faith, Restore the Church, Build the Future

March 14-15 Next week we will take up the Collection for the Church in Africa, Latin America,

and Eastern Europe. For many in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers present obstacles to practicing the Faith. Your support to the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ.

An important message from the Diocese regarding Coronavirus

Given that the County of Orange has declared a health emergency, the potential for person-to-person spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the U.S. and to ease the concerns of our faithful, Bishop Vann, in accord-ance with canons 85 and 90 §1 of the Code of Canon Law, hereby dis-penses those who are sick from attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, until further notice.

Additionally, Bishop Vann is mandating:

1. The faithful are not to hold hands during the Our Father nor shake hands at the sign of peace.

2. Communion from the cup is to be discontinued until further notice. 3. All ministers of Holy Communion should sanitize their hands before

and after distributing Holy Communion.

Please pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes for all who are sick.

Thank you,

The Most Reverend Timothy Freyer Auxiliary Bishop

We Pray for the Deceased

Please pray for these members of our parish family who passed away recently:

Alejandro Muñoz, Byron Palma,

Henson Vicente.

May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

CHANGE Lent is all about change and change is usual-ly not easy. In order to change we have to leave something behind. Today we hear about a very old man who decides to answer God’s call. Abram experiences a tremendous amount of change when he leaves everything behind, risk-ing it all for God’s promise. Jesus changes, is transfigured, right before the eyes of his disci-ples. The Lenten scriptures issue the call for us to change, to be transfigured, so that we, too, will soon share in the glory of God. What is it that the Lord is asking us to leave behind? Are we willing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten journey of conversion. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Food Distribution Our St. Vincent DePaul volunteers give out food on the

second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. under the shelter.

Introduction to the Bible The Bible is a library of 73 books written over a period of a

thousand years in a culture very different from our own. In our three sessions we will explore how the Catholic Church ap-proaches and interprets Scripture, how the canon of the Bible was formed and how to meditate and pray with the Scriptures. The sessions will be presented by Fr. John Monestero. The book we will be using is "Introduction to the Bible" by William A. Anderson.

Join us from 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m. on Thursdays, March 12, 19, and 26, in the Hope Room.

Please note that the book "Introduction to the Bible" is required for the class. Books will be available

for purchase for $15.00 at the first class.

The Sacrament of Penance The Sacrament of Penance (also called the

Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession) is God’s gift to us so that any sin committed after Baptism can be forgiven. In confession we have the opportunity to repent and recover the grace of friendship with God. It is a holy moment in which we place ourselves in his presence and honestly acknowledge our sins, especially mortal sins. With absolution, we are reconciled to God and the Church. The Sacrament helps us stay close to the truth that we cannot live without God. "In him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

English: -March 13, 20, & 27: 2:15 and 7 p.m. -April 3: Living Stations of the Cross, presented by St. Justin School at 2 p.m. & 6 p.m.

Spanish: -March 13, 20, 27, & April 3 at 6:15 p.m. at Sacred Heart Mission -April 10 (Good Friday): 5 p.m. on the SJM field

Stations of the Cross, also called Way of the Cross, is a devotion to recall and represent the events from Jesus’ passion and death. At each station we use our senses and our imagination to pray and reflect on the day that Je-sus died. The series of 14 events depicted in the stations are: (1) Jesus is condemned to death, (2) he is made to bear his cross, (3) he falls the first time, (4) he meets his mother, (5) Simon of Cyrene is made to bear the cross, (6) Veronica wipes Jesus’ face, (7) he falls the second time, (8) the women of Jerusalem weep over Jesus, (9) he falls the third time, (10) he is stripped of his garments, (11) he is nailed to the cross, (12) he dies on the cross, (13) he is taken down from the cross, and (14) he is placed in the sepulcher (tomb).

Some experience the stations as a mini pilgrimage, moving from station to station. This devotion may be done individually or as a group. At each station we recall and meditate on a specific event. Prayers are recited (St. Justin’s has prayer booklets for you to use), then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete. At St. Justin’s the stations are hung on the east and west walls of the nave of the church. During Lent we installed 14 tall wood crosses along the walkway between the church and the rectory, representing each of the stations. You may choose to pray the stations inside or outside.

The devotional exercise of visiting and praying in front of each of the 14 stations and meditating on the Passion of Christ stems from the practice of early Christian pilgrims who visited the scenes of the events in Jerusalem and walked the traditional route from the supposed location of Pilate’s house to Calvary.

The 2:15 p.m. stations at St. Justin are led by the St. Justin School stu-dents. The 7 p.m. stations are led by a different parish group each week. Thank you to the Filipino community for leading the March 6th stations, and to our English Cursillo group for leading them on March 13.

FAST AND

ABSTINENCE

Everyone 14 years of age and older is bound to abstain from meat on all Fridays of Lent. Those age 18-60 are to also fast on Good Friday.

R. Gloria a ti, Señor Jesús.
