Susanna Lubanga is a Highland
Church of Christ member and
director of the IRC here in
Abilene.
LAST MEETING: March 24, 2017 ‐ Storybook Gardens andCALF 2017
Lynn Barnett and PamTippen presented a
program on the AdamsonSpalding Storybook
Garden that is being built at the Abilene Civic
Center. It will feature five sets of sculptures inspired
by characters illustrated by Garth Williams, including
from the books "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little."
The garden opens during the Children's Art &
Literacy Festival.
NEXT WEEK: ‐ Angela Sharp / CASA of theBig Country
Angela Sharp is Executive Director of
CASA of the Big Coubtry. CASA (Court
Appointed Special Advocates) programs
collaborate with the Department of Family
and Protective Services (DFPS), Child
Protective Services (CPS) and other key
advocates in the child welfare system to
ensure that children who have been removed
from their homes due to abuse or neglect are
placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly
as possible.

PAUL THOMAS Paul Anthony Thomas was born at
Hendrick Hospital to a professional
geologist father who was a
numismatist and investment
advisor and to a chiropractor
mother who was a professional
bowler. Both parents were life
masters in bridge. Paul graduated
from Abilene High, A&M, and
HardinSimmons with some
classes at SMU and TCU.
Paul's three children, Emily,
Laura, and Seth, are all in college.
Work experience began early, at
thirteen, as an investment analyst
for his father. He was an
independent oil and gas geologist
fifteen years, seven years USEPA
Dallas hazardous waste specialist.
For ten years he was money
manager for private clients, then a
principal at Oil States Trading, LLC
and Farpoint Private Equity
Advisors and Managers. He is still
an active investor and money
manager and at large member of
the CFA Institute.
Hobbies include titles of
Certified Professional Geologist
and Mastic Gardner. He owns a
90acre organic farm in Abilene,
the only organic fruit and vegetable
farm between Ft. Worth and El
Paso. He reads and builds things.
An active author, Paul's last
book is Winning with Private
Equity. He has articles published
by MSNBC, MSNBC
Online, Scottsman Guide
Magazine, McGraw Hill, and
Bruno's Press. He drilled his first

Former Rotarian Doug Hodel, 65, passed away suddenly March 26, 2017.
Doug belonged to our club from November 1998 until June 2002.
