Enjoy a spectacular breakfast at the hotel and then we are picked up by the Manohra river cruise at the Shangri-La pier.We enjoy a leisurely cruise with coffee and soft drinks served on board until reaching the destination. Then, we are treated to a ride in a traditional tuk tuk to start the day with a guided visit of the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.

The Grand Palace is a “must see” for every visitor to Bangkok. Located close to the banks of the Chao Phraya River (The River of Kings), the Grand Palace is the perfect example of an ancient Siamese court. Within the compound is the Temple of The Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), which houses Thailand’s most precious image of the Lord Buddha. Then we continue by tuk tuk to visit the Wat Pho, which is one of Bangkok’s oldest and largest temples. Wat Pho was built by King Rama I about 200 years ago and houses the gigantic gold plated Reclining Buddha image. This unique image is 49 meters long and 12 meters high with beautifully inlaid mother-of-pearl soles.

We will take a tuk tuk for a quick tour of Bangkok old town before we head back on Manohra for our included Lunch Cruise on the mesmerizing Chao Phraya River.

After the Lunch Cruise, we are back at the Shangri-La Pier. This afternoon is free to spend time at the magnificent Shangri-La pool or enjoy a massage at the nearby Health Land to experience local Thai foot or body massage. This evening, our guide will escort us to the Bangkok Sky Train (BTS) for a short trip on the local, yet convenient and sophisticated transportation to our included dinner at the Than Ying Restaurant for an authentic traditional Thai dinner. After a savory taste of Thai cuisine, we will walk back to sky train station and take a short ride back to hotel. Overnight at Shangri-La Bangkok Friday, March 6, 2020 After breakfast at the hotel, we will be picked up at the Shangri-La Hotel pier and hop on an easily accessible wooden boat to start the Klong (canal) tour. The Klongs used to be the major mean of transportation in the “Venice of Asia” for hundreds of years. Water transportation is integrated into Thailand’s history as you can see local life along the canal.

We stop first for a visit to Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn): This is the most well-known landmark and photographed image of Bangkok. It measures over 70 meters high, the spire is beautifully decorated with tiny pieces of colored glass and Chinese porcelain placed delicately into intricate patterns. The smaller towers are equally beautifully adorned with ceramics that sparkle in the sun.

Afterwards the group will disembark at noon to Babble & Rum Restaurant to enjoy lunch.

The group will then board coach and continue with a visit to the famous Jim Thompson House, which is a unique example of Thai residential architecture filled with one of

the finest collections of Asian artefacts and antiques. Located along a khlong in the city center, this beautiful

teak mansion was the former residence of Jim Thompson, the mysterious and charismatic American silk merchant.

Comprised of several traditional teak buildings amid a leafy compound, Thompson spent years

filling it with priceless antiques before his mysterious disappearance in 1967. The group will take a tour through the house where you will learn more about the man himself, his involvement in the silk trade as well as about Thai culture and tradition.

This evening, dinner is on your own at Asiatique, a Bangkok shopping district. You may also

choose an optional flamboyant Calypso cabaret show. Overnight at Shangri-La Bangkok

Page 5: March 3 16, 2020 - Travel to Remembertraveltoremember.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/bangkok-vietnam... · the finest Temples of King Jayavarman VII, who ruled from 1181 to 1220

After check in, we proceed to reach the Southern Gate of Angkor Thom ‘Great City’. This will include many of the finest Temples of King Jayavarman VII, who ruled from 1181 to 1220. At the southern gate of Angkor Thom, you will marvel at the imposing 23m (75- foot) high stone faces of Avalokiteshvara, featured in the Tomb Raider movie. These astonishing carvings inspire awe and wonder in all who view them. At the center of this citadel lies the state temple of Bayon, which we will also visit. This temple- mountain, built at the end of the 12th century, is adorned with hundreds of gigantic stone faces. This tour also includes the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Later in the day we will discover the most famous temples from the 11th century: Baphuon, Phimeanakas.

Our day concludes with panoramic views of the Sunset and Angkor Wat from the temple mountain of Phnom Bakhaeng (900 AD), Sun Set at Pre Rup will be the alternative. Lunch today is on your own.

When you return to the hotel, you might want to enjoy a foot massage by pool side. Tonight we enjoy dinner with a traditional Dances Performance at Apsara Garden in Angkor Village Resort & Spa. Step back in time with the Apsara Dancers, who will bring the Khmer ancient culture back to

life, while enjoying a delicious Khmer Dinner. Overnight in Siem Reap

Sunday, March 8, 2020

We enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then head out to visit Banteay Srei. Consecrated in 967 A.D, Banteay Srei was speculated to have been known earlier as Banteay Serai, which literally means the Citadel of Victory. This was the only major temple at Angkor not built by a monarch.

Its construction is credited to a courtier named Yajnavaraha, who was a scholar and philanthropist and a counsellor to king Rajendravarman.

Then visit Ta Prohm the unforgettable temple complex

overgrown with massive trees whose thick roots entangle the walls. They were left here intentionally by the archaeologists

working on the site. While clearing back the forest it was decided to leave them in place to serve as a reminder of

how the original discoverers found it and other temples. Many of the trees have grown around and through the remains and soar high above the temple.

Angkor Wat which literally means ‘City Temple’ is a Hindu temple complex built to replicate the heavens on earth. Constructed for King Suryavarman II in the early twelfth century, it is the best-

preserved temple and is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation; first Hindu, dedicated to Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is the epitome of the high

classical style of Khmer architecture. Lunch is on your own. Overnight Memoire Angkor Hotel.

After our included dinner, we see the unusual Phare, the

Cambodian Circus Show, Uniquely Cambodian, and Daringly Modern, this is Siem Reap's most unique, authentic, top rated evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare performers

use theatre, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus

artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Overnight in Siem Reap

Monday, March 9, 2020 After breakfast at the hotel, we transfer to the local dock to board the MS AmaDara. After settling in, enjoy the fascinating view of the Saigon River from your private balcony or from the sundeck. You can also enjoy cold drinks in the Saigon Lounge while watching bustling river life pass by. AmaDara is a deluxe vessel with 100% of the accommodations featuring balconies. With only 62 staterooms, the AmaDara is an intimate sailing pleasure. The rooms are beautifully appointed with deluxe amenities including sitting area, individual temperature control, safe deposit box and much more. The vessel sports two lounges, fitness room, spa and sauna as well as an outdoor whirlpool. This afternoon, our excursion takes us to the Twin Mountains, known as Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei (male and female mountains). In the annals of Khmer legend, the twin mountains were formed as the result of a competition between the men and women of an ancient Cambodian kingdom to resolve which gender would be responsible for wedding proposals. As the story goes, the women lit a fire at night, which made the men believe the sun was rising. As a result, the men stopped working and the women won the competition. Thus, men still need to ask the women's parents for permission and Phnom Srei is higher than Phnom Pros. We return to the ship for an evening Welcome Dinner.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Hundreds of wooden houses stand intact on stilts, shaded with banana trees, among the hustle and bustle of the daily agricultural on-going of the local villagers. After visiting here, the ship sails to Oknhatey or “Silk Island,” located on the lush banks of the Mekong River. This island is known for its rich tradition of silk weaving. While here, you’ll observe traditional silk weaving an art that has been preserved for centuries. Your cruise continues to sail to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 Your morning excursion takes you to Oudong, Cambodia’s former royal capital from the early 17th century until 1866. Today, Oudong is a place of pilgrimage for Cambodians. While here, be treated to a memorable Buddhist Blessing Ceremony at a monastery. We then are treated to a truly authentic excursion; an oxcart ride through a local village Kampong Tralach. Experience Phnom Penh via a tuk tuk ride and be enchanted by the city's French Colonial architecture set amidst monumental Angkorian architecture .A local children’s dance troupe is in the Lounge this evening.
