HOLDEN TECHNICIANS GUILD GRAND FINAL AWARDS DINNER
14 FEB 2017
Apprentices in AUS/NZ by way of several examination stations testing their diagnostic skills. The following day after a team building experience we have an awards dinner and announce the winners for the year. The finer details were not revealed to the drivers until a few days prior to the event to keep it under wraps from the employees. The meeting point for the cars was in an underground carpark in Little Collins St. Traffic in the city that afternoon was chaotic at best and despite leaving early to allow plenty of time, I arrived just after the time set. Guns n Roses playing at the MCG that night was probably the reason. Once everyone else had arrived that could make it through the traffic, we were briefed again. Things were already behind schedule and there were fewer cars than the 10 expected. It was agreed that the first three cars would double back and pick up the remaining employees from the pickup point. One thing on our side it was a fairly cool day.
Some time ago, Holden approached the Monaro Club Victoria seeking assistance for an award night which was to be held in the city. They were after some special vehicles to transfer a number of their technicians who were attending the Holden Technicians Guild Grand Final Awards dinner. Just a little bit of background: this event is held every year to try to determine the best Holden Dealer Technicians and

The original plan was each car to pick up three employees from Bourke St, go for a quick drive through Carlton then drop them off at the Old Melbourne Gaol for a photo shoot. Because of the heavy traffic and the slipping schedule, we were advised to drop the drive through Carlton. We left in groups of three cars, and on arrival in Bourke St you could see they very pleased with the arriving Monaros and plenty of photos were being taken. The passengers were keen to learn about the cars on the short drive to the destination. At the destination there were more pictures taken and after all the transfers had been completed all the cars were parked outside the Gaol which created a bit of a photo opportunity and a chance for members to catch up. – Chris Biles

Hi guys, intermittent rain kept the numbers down at Hanging Rock, however there was no mud and the dust was nowhere to be seen. MCV had only seven cars attending, our numbers were down due to rain and also the organisers policy that cars must be 25 years old or older to attend, so there were no V2 or VZ Monaros. Despite all this it was still a fabulous show, with a great variety of cars.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event at the Moonee Valley Racecourse, especially given that so little prior notice was given. There were 8 members representing the MCOV.
