VPL Accredited as “Exemplary’

Your public library, the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library, was again accredited as an ‘exemplary’ library for 2017. Library Director Daniel Burniston recently traveled to Pierre during SDLA Legislative Day to receive the commendation. State Librarian Daria Bossman and South Dakota Library Association President Danielle Loftus were on hand to present awards. South Dakota Libraries submit to

voluntary accreditation through the SD

State Library on a yearly basis. To be

accredited at the Exemplary level a

library must meet all of the Essential

standards (first level), all of the

Enhanced standards (middle level), and

all but two of the Exemplary standards

(highest level). The comprehensive list

of standards used to accredit our

Power 1/2 Hour is our newest literacy

program for the littlest patrons. It happens

this spring every Wednesday at 11:15 am.

USD student Mackenzie Huber leads the

charge, exciting the preschoolers through

interactive storytelling, songs, and creative

games. We’re proud to have this program

featured as a part of our literacy

programming, but hurry to check it out -

Mackenzie graduates in May! Takes place

in the Kozak Community Room, and all

are welcome.

To better serve our patrons and community, the Library is pleased to announce the extension of

open hours. Beginning March 1st, we will now be

open from 8 am - 9 pm Monday through

Thursday, and 8 am - 6 pm on Fridays. Hours

remain 10 am - 5 pm on Saturdays, and 1 - 5 pm on

Sundays. In addition, the Library will no longer

close on Sundays during the summer. Come take advantage of the many resources we offer during our

new open hours, or any time! Find out more at our

website: vermillionpubliclibrary.org.

Mobile Hotspot Checkouts Thanks to the expert feedback from you, our patrons, the Library is ready to roll out its official mobile hotspot checkout program. Beginning

March 1st, we will have four Verizon 4G LTE Jetpacks in circulation. Do you have your own Wi-Fi capable device? Tablets, iPads,

smartphones, laptops and eReaders are all devices that connect to Wi-Fi. Hotspots offer a dependable, fast connection for high-quality

web-browsing. These devices can prove useful to individuals or

households who either don’t have internet service or unreliable service,

or need access to the internet while traveling.

To be eligible for the hotspot checkout program, patrons must have an

account in good standing (no fees in excess of $15 & no missing items),

have had an account with the VPL for at least 6 months, be at least 18

years of age, and have a signed user-agreement on file.

Devices can be checked out for a 7-day period, with no data limits.

Patrons will also have the option to re-check a device, after a 24-hour

waiting period following the initial checkout.
