Grab your raincoats and sturdy shoes...it has been a long, wet winter but the sun is meandering in and out of those water-filled clouds and we say it is time to get outside!

This month we are heading off on a beautiful drive via the backroads, to Tacoma where we will stop in at the Glass Museum for lunch and a guided tour plus the chance to meet the arti-

sans and watch them at work.

We will also be making a trip to his-toric Monroe for a stop at the Ever-green State Fairgrounds for the Wash-ington Quilters Show. Then break out your toe-tapping shoes because we are heading to Boxleys Jazz Club in North Bend for a night of great food and the finest live jazz that our area has to offer.

Fill that in with books and coffee at Barnes & Noble, tea and antiques at Gilman Gallery, a little “Luck o’ the

Irish” at Snoqualmie Casino, shopping and lunch at the North Bend Factory Outlet Mall, and a beautiful scenic drive up through the mountains and it looks like a fine way to celebrate spring!

This year March brings us the first day of spring and Easter Sunday as well. Two sig-nificant events...unrelated, yet with a thread of commonality in that they both celebrate rebirth...resurrection...hope. I was hiking over the weekend and my hik-ing partner made the comment that it is so easy to get lost in the day to day business of existence and forget to take the time to enjoy the simple things in life. Things like the wonder of the new growth and buds everywhere I looked, a tiny flower growing out of the face of a boulder, the sun warming my face...even the smiles of the hikers we passed along the trail held the joy of knowing that out of the darkness of winter there is always the promise of new beginnings and the color and warmth of summer is just around the corner. It occurs to me that moving into a retire-ment community is very much like that….it is a time of new beginnings, a new life style, and new friends. The possibilities are end-less to develop new hobbies and interests. It is “me” time. No more house upkeep or yard work...nor endless hours of house cleaning. You don’t even have to cook if you don’t want to! Our job in the programs department is to keep that thought in our minds with all things we plan...how to enjoy our retire-ment while still staying active and engaged? How to make this new “season” of our life bloom with expectation! It starts with the seven dimensions of well-ness...emotional, spiritual, physical, voca-tional, intellectual, environmental and social. We then strive to tailor a well-rounded calendar that gives equal attention to each dimension...while keeping the personal needs and interests of each

and every one of you in mind. What can we offer new to learn? A “bucket list” experience? A new skill...or honing an old one? Going somewhere you have never been before? There are so many opportuni-ties for new friends and new challenges! What excites & impassions you? With the onset of spring, what excites me is getting outside and enjoying this beautiful ar-ea we live in. Hiking, geocaching, Nordic poles, Qi Gong in the park and picnics at the lake...those are the things I am looking forward to sharing with you!

How about you? Hugs, Doni

WWW.BELLEWOOD.COM FIT & FUN

Monday 10:30/Wednesday 9:30 Specifically designed for an older popula-tion, Medical Qi Gong can be done seated or standing. Positions and movements accommodate all fitness levels...in other words, anybody can do it! I encourage you all to join me and give it a try...the balance and harmony it brings to your inner being instills a feeling of well being and peacefulness. We start with a short medi-tative moment then move on to the 8 minimal movements, fol-lowed by a healthy snack. No com-mitment neces-sary… just come and see what you think! ~Doni

Mondays at 2:30 Fear of falling is a vicious circle: Fear=loss of confidence=restricting ac-tivity=loss of muscle tone. In this class, you will learn that falling does not have to be a natural part of the aging pro-cess….we will talk about the internal and external factors that contribute to falls and how to take the necessary steps to re-duce your fear and reduce your risk.

Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:00 An advanced fitness routine combination of both seated and standing that inte-grates music, movement and merriment to your morning wake up. Challenging your body AND your brain in integrated movement.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9:30 (FC)

This fitness regime is calculated to accommodate seniors at any level of fit-ness, combining seated core with stand-ing exercises, all specifically designed to strengthen your abdominals, lower back, and pelvic floor muscles.

~Coming in April~

Geocaching is a great outdoor activity that that has become a world-wide phenome-non. All over the world geocachers have hidden small containers (“caches”) in which small tokens are left. They then leave the coordinates and “hints” on the geocache website. Explorers such as us use a GPS and find the hidden container, log in the time and day, exchange one small token for another and re-hide it.

Our brain is the most important, and often most neglected muscle in our body. April will bring us a fascinating weekly “Great Cours-es” Series on brain function and health. Along with brain education we will be sharing laughs & inspiration at a weekly “Improv” session!

More on both programs coming soon.
