Your S/PPRC TEAM met on January 30, 2013.Those present included Sid Scofield, Kelli Childs, ewelda Scofield, Waylon Sheetz, Susan Childs and
Pastor Emily. The meeting was opened in worship byreading 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 followed by prayer. We reviewed S/PPRCs responsibilities and tasks as wellas rules during our learning time. These responsibilitiesand tasks will be supported by our prayers and ourchurchs mission and vision. We also read and signedthe S/PPRC covenant prepared last fall by ourcommittee. As supported by our conference Pastor-Parish Relations
guidelines book, the first quarter meeting asked us toreview staff job descriptions. Each committee membervolunteered to be a liaison with a paid staff member toreview or formulate their job descriptions. This processwill allow each staff member to build a one on onerelationship with an S/PPRC committee member. Thisrelationship also allows staff to share joys and concernswith their liaison as appropriate.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 23rd at7:00 pm. If you have any questions or thoughts for theS/PPRC committee, please do not hesitate to let meknow. Susan Childs, S/PPRC Chairman

The KAUMF account is split betwinterest bearing accounts and a stock market accouThe gain from interest bearing accounts remained vlow in 2012. However, the stock account gave a nreturn. The endowment itself may not be spent by committee, but the market or interest gain from th

The TRUSTEES met Wednesday, February 20th to discuss repairs and projefor 2013; more on repairs & projects in upcoming newsletters. The Trust
are excited to announce their progress on the Kiosk project - nearly 100% of the funds needed have been receivYour donations along with funds from the Leadership Team and UMW have brought us to within just a fhundred dollars of the goal. With the promise of warmer weather just around the corner, work should soon be
to erect the new Kiosk. The new Kiosk will look similar to the old one in size & shape only more weather resistawith the brick structure matching the church and a limestone top much like the windows. The flaming cross wbe refinished and placed on the left as before. The new display will be red LED and can be changed as oftenneeded for church service times, events and announcements. Jay Kallman, Trustee Chair
The FELLOWSHIP TEAM did not host a special meal for the church family in January due to the Mission Team furaiser meal. February 10th, we hosted the Soup, Sandwich, and Pie Dinner after church on 2/10/13. That wadelicious meal and great time for fellowship and meeting Virginia Smith. In March, we will help The EveryServe Sunday Team on 3/17/13 for a Potato Bar Meal with the church family providing the food. Plans for Apare being discussed. May brings Mother's Day 5/12/13 and high school graduation 5/19/13. We have definite plans for May as yet. There is usually a senior breakfast honoring our graduating members with Junior mother's hosting. This past year (2012) it was an all church breakfast with our team and the congregat
helping with food and set-up/clean-up. In June and/or July we hope to do something at the new Food Stand. still try to have the Cafe' every Sunday morning. Donations of goodies/snacks/treats each Sunday is needed agreatly appreciated. One church member has committed to
provide the "eats" for the second Sunday of eachmonth - this is so helpful. We welcome one newmember to our team, Deanna White, and would loveto have several more members. Please let CarolMonsanto or myself know if you or someone else isinterested in joining our team. Please remember weare willing to help with any/all fellowship events.Susie Arbuthnot, Fellowship Team

What is Safe Gatherings? Safe Gatherings is a biblically-based boundary awareness and abuse prevention program developed by the Kansas East and
Kansas West conferences to certify volunteer workers, staff and clergy, enabling them to work with children, youth and adultswith developmental disabilities in accordance with the policies of the conferences. This program is comparable to and willreplace the Boundary Awareness and Safe Sanctuaries programs.
Why must Belleville FUMC implement the Safe Gatherings program? Both the Kansas East & Kansas West Annual Conferences have adopted this as a mandatory program for churches within their
bounds. Beginning Sept. 1, 2012, all persons in the Kansas West Conference who are renewing or completing first-timecertification will complete their education and certification process online. Both conferences will use this new online system, which replaces the current face-to-face training for certification. Kansas East began using the system July 1. Background checkswill be done electronically.
Who must be certified? ALL who work with children, youth and/or developmentally disabled adults are required to become certified through the Safe
Gathering program. This includes paid or unpaid staff (i.e. volunteers), lay or clergy, who have direct contact with children, youtand/or developmentally disabled adults.
How long is certification valid? Certification is valid for four (4) years.
Are there pre-requisites to taking the certification class? Yes. There are pre-requisites.o You must be 16 years of age in order to be certified.o You must complete all required paperwork, which includes two references one each from a clergy person and a lay
person who have known you for at least two years.o You must pay the required fee.o You must complete the online course within 30 days.
What might prevent me from being certified? A person who has been convicted as a sex offender will not be certified. Affirmative responses to the following questions relating to crimes will prompt a personal review of an application:
o against children,o rape, sexual or physical assaulto possession or use of drugs, and
o suspension of a drivers license within the last five years
What does it cost to become certified? Belleville FUMC has set aside funds to pay for the certification of its volunteers.
If a person is currently Boundary Awareness certified, will their certification be in compliance withthe new Safe Gatherings Program?
Yes. All people certified in Boundary Awareness are compliant until the date their current certification expires. They mustthen take the Safe Gatherings course to be in compliance with the requirements of both conferences.

Dear Church Family,
I want to thank everyone for welcoming me tobe a part of Belleville First United Methodist Church.I have been so richly blessed by your generosity andkindness. Starting a new career in a new place isalways a challenge, but I have been met with ahospitality of which I never could have dreamed. ThePantry Shower has filled my cabinets to the burstingpoint! As a church, you all helped to collect 72 foodand household items for me. Amazing! I simply cannottell you how grateful I am to live, work, and servealongside two congregations that are so open-hearted. Blessings,
