DearFriends,
Attheendoflastmonth,mysisterAnnecelebratedher
56thyear.However,allofthecardsthatshereceivedwishedheravery
happy14thbirthday!Yousee,Annewasbornonthe29thFebruary,1956,so
sheonlygetstoreallycelebrateherbirthdayeveryfouryears.She
laughinglysaysthatshe’slookingforwardtoher84thyear,whenshewillbe
abletocelebrateher21stbirthday.And,beingaLeapYearbaby,shenever
hastolieaboutherage.
Didyouknowthatsomeborn-againChristianscelebratetwobirthdays
everyyear?Theyacknowledgetheiractualbirthdaywhentheywereborn
intothisworld,buttheyalsoemphasizetheirre-birthdaywhentheywere
bornagainbygivingtheirhearttoJesus.It’satimetogivethankstoGodfor
theirsalvationand,insteadoffocusingonthemselves,theydosomething
specialforChristandsomethingbeautifulforGod.
ThismonthI’llbe55yearsold,butonJune15th,I’llbe35yearsoldasa
born-againChristian.Iknowthattermisnotpopularandislookedupon
suspiciouslybysomepeople,butIcannotdenywhathappenedtomeon
June15,1977.Onthatday,GodopenedmyheartandIgavemylifetoJesus.
Theprocesssavedmylifeandthatspiritualeventawakenedmysoul.Itwas
apivotalmomentforme;itwasatotalrebirthofmylife.
AtErin,wehavealsoexperiencedarebirthinrecentyears.Thewhole
processofrenovationhasrenewedourcommitmenttoChristandthisyear
wewillbringthismodernizationtoanend.AtEaster,wewillseesome
substantialdifferencesinthesanctuaryand,bytheendofthesummer,we
willhaveaccomplishedwhatwesetouttodointheNameofChrist.Itwill
beagreatoccasiontogivethankstoGodandtobecomereborninourfaith,
toberenewedformission,andtobereadytobeginChrist’sGreat
Commissioninourcongregationandsurroundingcommunity.

DearFriends,MyfamilyandIjoinedErinChurchDiveyearsagoandimmediatelyfoundahomehere.Truly,ErinislikemysecondfamilyandsoIamespeciallyhonoredtojointhestaffasDirectorofFamilyMinistries.TheDirectorofFamilyMinistries,formerlycalledtheChristianEducationCoordinator,isnowapart-timepositionthatfocusesonChristianEducationforchildrenthroughDifthgradeandtheirfamilies.Inthisposition,Iwillworktomanageanddevel-optheDiscipleshipTeamprograms,suchasSundaySchool,PlanetWorship,WednesdayNightPioneerClub,andVacationBibleSchool.Thisisabusytimeinourchurchyear.Intheweeksahead,IwillworktoupdatetheDiscipleshipvolunteerroster,togrowanddevelopthePlanetWorshipprogram,andmakeplansforthisyear’sVBS.Thestrengthofourchildren’sprogramsliesinthesupportanddedicationofourcongregation.IwelcomeyourinputandcontributionsandwillbeavailableMondaythroughFriday,9amtoNoon,inthechurchofDice.Thankyouforgivingmetheopportunitytoserveinthisway.Ilookforwardtoanexcitingandfruitfulyear!

IknowthatIamasinnerjustlydeservingGod’swrath.IhavebrokenHiscommandsandsoughtmyselDishends.But,myheartisthankfulthatHedidnotleavemeinthatstateofrejectionIsodeserved.HeintervenedthroughHisHolySpirittoextendmegraceforthepaymentofmysinsbythecompletedworkofJesusChrist,Hisson,mysavior.IbelievethatGodcallsbelieverstobeacommunityoffaithtodemonstrateHisloveforarebelliousworld.Toliveinacommunitythatisredeemed,notcapableofdemonstratinganythingofGodapartfromHisloveandpowerinus.ThatistheGoodNews….GodknowsusandyetchoosestoloveusandcallustohimselfbytheworkofHisSon.BeingraisedinthePresbyterianChurch,IbecameaChristianatanearlyagereceivingconDirmationattheageoftwelveyears.MycallingtoserveinthechurchwasconDirmeduponreturningfrommilitaryserviceandbeingordainedadeaconandthenelderinthePresbyterianChurchU.S.andlatertheP.C.A.MyjourneyhasnotalwaysbeenthatwhichIcanliftasanexampletofollowinallendeavors,butGodhasprovidedHisgracethroughalovingwifeof43years,fouradultchildrenandtheirspouses,Divegrandchildrenandanextendedfamilythathaslovedandencouragedmethroughouttheyearsdespitemymanyshortfalls.ThroughHisprovision,Godhasallowed
metohavearewardingprofessionallifeasanarchitectexperiencingthejoyofcreationinHisworld.
