Moscow is the capital of Russia. Yuri Dolgoruki founded Moscow in 1147. In Moscow there is a monument to him.

The Volga is the longest river in Europe. It flows into the Caspian Sea. It`s length is 3530 km, the area of the river is 361000 km². There are four big cities on the Volga: Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Samara, Volgograd.

Russia is the largest country in the world. Russia is situated on two continents: Europe and Asia. Russia is a very rich country. There are many mountaines, rivers, lakes and forests. There are a lot of animals, birds and plants in our forests, fields and mountains. Russia is also rich in gold, silver, oil, gas and other minerals.

Symbols of Russia

The wildlife and flora are very rich, and the birch tree and the bear have become the symbols of Russian Federation. We have steppes in the south, plains and forests in the midland, tundra and taiga in the north, highlands and deserts in the east.

Alexander Pushkin is one of the greatest writers of the world. He wrote a lot of different poems and tales. Children and adults love his work. The most important work of Pushkin is “Eugeny Onegin”. Pushkin was born in June 26, 1799 and died in January 29, 1837.

London is the capital of England. It is political and business centre. The heart of London is the City. You can visit some places of interest there. The political centre of London is Westminster. The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace.

Trafalgar Square is in the centre of London. There is a monument to Admiral Nelson in the middle of the square. The symbols of London are Big Ben and the London Eye. You can move across London by black taxi and London bus. The largest park in London is Hyde Park. Oxford street is the main shopping centre.

Agatha Christie was born in 1890. She did not go to school but she got her education at home. Agatha took part in the war of 1914.

She began to write detective stories in 1920 and became famous in 1926. Agatha Christie wrote 68 novels, 17 plays, more than a hundred stories.

America was discovered by Christopher Columbus in October, 1492. He arrived in America on three ships: Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta. Columbus wanted to discover India, so he called the people who lived on that continent “Indians”. Later Amerigo Vespucci (Italian explorer) “discovered” America again. European people wanted to live in America, so they had a voyage on a “Mayflower” ship. They wanted to start a new life on a new continent.

George Washington was the first president of the United States. He became president in 1789.

The capital of USA is Washington. Washington has many places of interest: White House, Washington Zoo, National museum of History.

New York has many places of interest too: Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park are famous all over the world.
