Teaching Equipment Visual Refrigeration Training Unit
Shows students the basic principles of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle.
Pressure Measurement Bench
Allows students to investigate measurements of pressure, which is one of the fundamental parameters present in almost every branch of engineering.
Heat Exchanger Service Module
Shows students how heat is exchanged between hot water and cold water using Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger
Free and Forced Convection Apparatus
Shows students how heat convects from a choice of three different surfaces (Flat, Pinned or Finned) both under free (or natural) convection and under forced convection.
Linear Heat Conduction Apparatus
Linear Heat Conduction Apparatus, H 112A, from P.A.Hilton has been designed to demonstrate to students a series of principles of linear heat conduction, both visually and by experimental analysis.
Radiant Heat Transfer Apparatus
Allows the basic laws of heat transfer by radiation (both heat and light) to be investigated experimentally.
Hydrostatic Pressure Apparatus
The Hydrostatic Pressure Apparatus has been designed to determine the static thrust exerted by a fluid on a submerged surface and enables comparison of the measured magnitude and position of this force with simple theory.
Series and Parallel Pumps Demonstration Unit
Series and Parallel Pumps Demonstration Unit, FM51, from Armfield, is designed to demonstrate the operational advantages of parallel or series operation, depending on the required duty.
Fluid Friction Measurements unit
The Armfield Fluid Friction Measurements unit, C 6 MKII, and the Armfield Hydraulics bench, F1-10, provide facilities for the detailed study of fluid friction head losses which occur when an incompressible fluid flows through pipes, fittings and flow metering devices.
Equipment for Teaching and Research
This part of the presentation is to show the equipment that can be used either for teaching or research. For research, some can be used as they are and some with a complementary equipment.
Air Conditioning Laboratory Unit
The P.A.Hilton A660 Air Conditioning Laboratory Unit is an expandable teaching and experimental unit that enables students to thermodynamically investigate the basic air conditioning processes of heating, cooling, humidification, de-humidification and air movement that are of fundamental importance to engineers.
Subsonic Wind Tunnel
The Armfield Subsonic Wind Tunnel, C 15-10, is a small benchtop wind tunnel with a transparent working section. A wide range of accessories are used, allowing the comprehensive study of subsonic aerodynamics.
Gas Turbine with Power Turbine Trainer
The Gas Turbine with Power Turbine Trainer, ET 794, from Gunt investigates the behavior during operation of a system with two independent turbines in a two-shaft arrangement.
Internal Combustion Engine Test Stand
The C 100 ICE, from P.A.Hilton, is a floor mounted modular internal combustion engine test stand with regenerative dynamometer and two internal combustion engines (petrol and diesel) up to 4kW shaft power. A separate instrumentation console allows measurement and display of the engine torque, speed, air consumption, fuel consumption, inlet air temperature and exhaust gas temperature.
PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS
The TE4 photovoltaic cells, from TecQuipment, shows the use of photovoltaic cells to capture solar energy. It demonstrates the performance of a high efficiency photovoltaic cell array and battery storage system.
Focusing Solar Energy Collector
The TE38 focusing solar energy collector, from TecQuipment, shows how a focusing solar energy collector works and allows students to study its performance. It shows the principles, advantages and limitations of focusing solar energy collectors.
Flat Plate Solar Energy Collector
The TE39 flat plate solar energy collector, from TecQuipment, shows how a flat plate solar energy collector works. It allows students to measure and find the efficiency and heat losses of a flat plate solar energy collector.
Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) is a system-design platform and development environment for a visual programming language from National Instruments. LabVIEW is commonly used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation on a variety of operating systems (OSs), including Microsoft Windows.

Emona Sustainable Energy Trainer ETT-411
The Emona ‘HELEx’ extends the functionality of the NI ELVIS Workstation and LabVIEW interface with a sustainable energy trainer to teach the fundamentals of solar cells, electrolysis and hydrogen fuel cell theory. With HELEx, students will enter the fascinating world of generating electrical energy from sunlight, storing that energy as hydrogen gas, and then regenerating electricity from hydrogen and oxygen in an electrochemical reaction.
