Many programmes broadcast on theFM waveband have a programmeidentification (PI) code, which can berecognised by audio units.

If your radio has AF tuning switchedon and you move from onetransmission area to another, thisfacility will search for and switch to astronger station signal, if one can befound.

Under certain conditions, however, alternative frequency tuning maytemporarily disrupt normal reception.

With ‘AF-ON’ or ‘AF-AUTO’ selected, the unit continually evaluates signalstrength and, if a better signalbecomes available, the unit will switchto that alternative. It mutes while itchecks a list of alternativefrequencies and, if necessary, it willsearch once across the selectedwaveband for a genuine alternativefrequency.

It will restore radio reception when itfinds one or, if one is not found, theunit will return to the original storedfrequency. On certain units, ‘NotFound’ will be displayed.

On some units with ‘AF-MAN’selected, the unit operates in a similarway to ‘AFAUTO’ or ‘AF-ON’, but onlysearches for an alternative frequencywhen prompted by pressing a presetbutton.

Sony CD

MP3 (MPEG 1 Audio Layer-3) is astandard technology and format forcompressing audio data. This allowsa more efficient use of the media.

You can play MP3 files recorded onCD-ROMs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. Thedisc must be in the ISO 9660 level 1or level 2 format, or Joliet or Romeoin the expansion format. You can alsouse a disc recorded in Multi Session.

ISO 9660 format

This is the most commoninternational standard for the logicalformat of files and folders on aCD-ROM.

There are several specification levels. In Level 1, file names must be in the8.3 format (no more than 8characters in the name, no morethan 3 characters in the extension“.MP3”) and in capital letters.

Folder names can be no longer than8 characters. There can be no morethan 8 folder levels (trees). Level 2specifications allow file names up to31 characters long.

Each folder can have up to 8 trees.

38

Compact disc player

Page 41: Manual Radio CD Ford 6000CD

For Joliet or Romeo in the expansionformat, please consider theserestrictions when configuring yourCD writing software.

Multi session

This is a recording method thatenables adding of data using theTrack-At-Once method.

Conventional CDs begin at a CDcontrol area called the Lead-in andend at an area called Lead-out. AMulti Session CD is a CD havingmultiple sessions, with each segmentfrom Lead-in to Lead-out regardedas a single session.

• CD-Extra: The format that recordsaudio (audio CD data) as trackson session 1, and records data astracks on session 2.

• Mixed CD: In this format, data isrecorded as track 1, and audio(audio CD data) is recorded astrack 2.

File formats

• With formats other than ISO 9660level 1 and level 2, folder namesor file names may not bedisplayed correctly.

• When naming, be sure to add thefile extension “.MP3” to the filename.

• If you put the extension “.MP3” toa file other than MP3, the unitcannot recognize the file properlyand will generate random noisethat could damage your speakers.

• The following discs take a longertime to start playback.• a disc recorded with

complicated tree structure.• a disc recorded in Multi

Session.• a non-finalised disc to which

data can be added.

Playing a multi session disc

When the first track of the firstsession is audio CD data

• If no MP3 file is in the disc, nothingis played back. (Audio CD data isnot recognised.)

ID3 Tag Version 2

The following occurs when an MP3file containing ID3 tag ver.2 is played:

• When skipping a portion of ID3 tagver.2 (at the beginning of thetrack), sound is not output. Skiptime changes depending ID3 tagver.2 capacity. Example: At 64kbytes, it is about 2 seconds (withRealJukebox).

• The displayed elapsed playingtime when skipping a portion ofID3 tag ver.2 is inaccurate. ForMP3 files of a bit rate other than128 kbps, time is not displayedaccurately during playback.

• When an MP3 file is created withMP3 conversion software (e.g.RealJukebox - a registeredtrademark of RealNetworks Inc),ID3 ver.2 will automatically bewritten.

MP3 tracks may be recorded on theCD in several ways. They can all beplaced in the root directory like aconventional audio CD, or they canbe placed in folders that mayrepresent, for example, an album, anartist, or a genre.

The normal playing sequence on CDswith multiple folders is to play thetracks in the first folder, then thetracks in any folder(s) nested insidethe first folder, then move onto thesecond folder, and so forth. Forexample, if folder 1 has folders 1a and1b within it, and folder 2 containsfolder 2a, the playing sequence willbe folder 1, 1a, 1b, 2, 2a.
