ForewordThis manual on test sieving methods is intended for use as a supplement to, and not as a substitute for, the many ASTM standards relating to the sieve analysis of materials. There has been a need for a manual that would bring together, from many sources, proven methods for making reliable sieve analysis to serve as a guide for the novice and a reference for the more advanced.

Test Sieving Methods was originally compiled by W. C. Mahlig and A.  E.  Reed. The latest revisions to this manual were made by a working subcommittee, ASTM E29.01. Please contact the sponsoring committee, E29 on Particle and Spray Characterization, for any additional information. This is MNL 32 in ASTM International’s manual series.
