    Remot e controlDetach the battery compartment lid at the rear of the remotecontrol and insert two R6 (size AA) batteries with correct

    polarity.

    Replace the batteries with new ones when the operationaldistance between the remote control and main un it becomesshorter.

    Remove the batteries if the unit is not going to be used foran extended period of time.

    The remote control may not operate if it is used under intensesunli ght or if its li ne of sight is obstructed.

    ConnectionPlug in the AC power cord to the AC outlet after all otherconnections are made.

    1 Connect the speakers to the main unit.Connect the right speaker to the SPEAKERS R terminalsand the left to the SPEAKERS L terminals. The speakercords with the stripes go to the0 terminals.

    2 Connect the supplied antennas.

    Connect the FM antenna to the FM 75 terminals andthe AM antenna to the AM LOOP jack. Connect the FMantenna to the FM 75 terminals without the2 mark,as il lustrated.

    3 Connect the AC power cord to an AC outlet.The clock wi ll flash on the display.For setting the clock, see page 7.

    Speakers Do not short-circuit the0 and9 speaker cord leads. Do not leave objects generating magnetism or objects

    affected by m agnetism near the speakers.

    AntennasKeep antennas away from metal l ic objects, electr icalequipment and cords. FM antenna: Extend fully and posit ion for the best

    reception. If reception is poor, connect an opti onal outdoorantenna to the FM 75 terminals. When connecting anoptional outdoor antenna, be sure to connect the shield b raidof the antenna to the2 terminal.

    Setting the clock1 Hold down SHIFT and press CLOCK on the remote

    control.When the unit is turned off, you can also press SET.

    2 Within 6 seconds, pressf org to set thetime.Each press changes the time i n 1- minute steps.Holdi ng these buttons down wil l vary the time in 10- minuteunits.

    3 Press SET.

    The time display stops flashing and the clock starts from00 seconds.

    When setting the clock on the unit in stop mode, hold downs and pressg in step 1. After setting the time i n step 2,press TONE in step 3.

    To display the tim e while the power is onHold down SHIFT and press CLOCK on the remote control.The time wil l be di splayed for 6 seconds.

    To switch to the 24-hour standardDisplay the time and presss within 6 seconds.With each press, the clock alternates between 12- and 24-hour standard tim e.

    Tip:In the 12-hou r standard, "AM12:00" ind icates midn ight and"PM12:00" noon.

    If the clock display flashes when the unit is turnedoffThere has been a power interruption. Reset the clock.

    Power Turning the unit onPress POWER 6STANDBY/ON (POWER on the remotecontrol).Alternatively, p ress TAPE, TUNER/AUX/BAND (TUNER/BANDor AUX on the remote control) or CD. Playback will startautomatically i f a disc or tape is l oaded.

    This unit plays back f inalized CD-R/ RW discs as w ell as audioCDs.

    Playing a CD

    1 Press OPEN to open the disc compartment.Place a disc with the label si de up. Then close the disccompartment by pressing OPEN.

    2 PressE to start play.

    To stop playPresss.

    To pause playPressE. Press again to resum e play.

    To skip to the beginning of the current/preceding/succeeding trackPressf org repeatedly .

    CD OPERATION S

    To search (playback in fast forward or reverse)Hold downf org. Release at the desired poi nt.

    To select a track with the rem ote control (Di rect play)Press the numbered buttons to select a track.- To select the 25th track, press +10, +10 and 5.- To select the 11th track, press +10 and 1.

    To change the display in playback modePress DISPLAY (ho ld down SHIFT and press DISPLAY on theremote control) during play.

    The display changes in the followi ng order:

    Random/ Repeat playIn random play mode the unit plays all the tracks in randomorder. In repeat play mode it plays repeatedly all the t racks or

    the track being played. You can select random and re pea t allplay at the sam e t im e.

    1 Hold down SHIFT and press RANDOM/REPrepeatedly on the remote contr ol.The mode changes as follows:""1": Plays one track repeatedly. Select the track withf org.""": Plays all the tracks repeatedly."RANDOM": Plays all the tracks randomly."RANDOM"": Plays all the tracks repeatedly inrandom order.

    2 PressE to start play.

    To cancel random/repeat playHold down SHIFT and press RANDOM/REP on the remotecontrol r epeatedly un til "RANDOM" or """ disappears.Direct selection of the tracks with the numbered buttonscancels random play mode.

    Programmed playPlays back up to 30 selected tracks in programmed order.

    1 Hold down SHIFT and press PROGRAM on the

    remote control in stop mode."PRGM" flashes on the di splay.

    2 Press the numbered buttons on the remotecontrol to program a track.-To select the 25th track, press +10, +10 and 5.-To select the 11th track, press +10 and 1.The selected track num ber li ghts up on the di splay.

    3 Repeat step 2 t o prog ram o ther tracks.The total number o f selected tracks and total playing timewill be displayed.

    4 PressE to start play.The track number for the current track flashes on thedisplay.

    During programmed play, you cannot select a track with thenumbered buttons. "CANT USE" is di splayed when youtry to select a track .

    If the total playing time of the program exceeds 99 minu tesand 59 seconds, or if a track with a track number exceeding30 is programmed, the playing t ime is displayed as"- -:- -".

    You cannot program more than 30 tracks. "FULL" is

    displayed.

    To check the programPress f or g repeatedly in stop mode. The tracknumber and program number are displ ayed in succession.

    To clear the programPresss in stop mode. "PRGM" di sappears from the disp lay.

    To add tra cks to the programRepeat step 2 before starti ng playback. The tracks are addedto the end of the program.

    To change the programmed tracksClear the program and repeat all the steps again.

    Note s on CDs

    Do not place more than one disc. Do not tilt the unit with a disc loaded. The unit may not play CD-R/RW discs recorded on personal

    computers or certain kinds of CD- R/RW recorders. Do no t a t tach adhes ive labe l t o ei t her s ide o f

    CD-R/RW discs, as doing so may cause malfunction. Do not load an unrecorded CD-R/RW disc. The disc may be

    damaged. Do not use irregular-shaped CDs.

    M anual tuning1 Press TUNER/AUX/BAND (TUNER/BAND on the

    remote control) repeatedly to select a band.

    2 Pressforg repeatedly to tune in a station ."TUNE" is d ispl ayed when a station i s tuned in."1" is displ ayed for FM stereo reception.

    To search for a station automatically (Auto search)Hold downf org.The unit searches for a station and stops at reception.To stop the search m anually, pressf org.

    Auto search may not stop at stations with weak signals.

    Preset tuningPreset up to 32 of your favourite stations and tune them indirectly.

    Presetting stations1 Tune in the desired station .

    2 Press SET on the remote control to store thestation.The preset number, beginning from "1" flashes on thedisplay.

    3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 to preset other stations.The next station wi ll not be stored if a total o f 32 presetstations have already been stored. ("FULL" is d isplayed.)

    If power is i nterrupted for more than approximately 12 hours,all settings stored i n memory after purchase need to be reset.

    Tuning in preset stations

    1 Select t he band.

    2 Press PRESET + ,- on the remote control

    repeatedly.With each press, the station with the succeeding orpreceding preset number is tuned in.You can tune in the desired preset station directly bypressing the numbered buttons on the remote control.- To select preset number 11, press +10 and 1.- To select preset number 15, press +10 and 5.

    To clear a preset station1 Tune in the station by preset tuning.2 Presss, then press SET on the remote control within 6

    seconds.Preset station numbers in the band wh ich are higher thanthe cleared number decrease by one.

    Tip:Volume l evel setting i s retained du ring power-off standby. Ifthe unit is turned off with the volume set to 17 or hi gher, it isautomatically turned down to 16 the next time the unit is turnedon.

    To switch to monaural FM receptionHold down SHIFT and press TUNER MODE on the remote

    control so that "MONO" is displ ayed.To cancel , repeat the above so that "STEREO" is displ ayed.

    Tip:When FM stereo reception is poor, switching to monauralreduces noise.

    To switch the AM tuning intervalThe default setting of the AM tuning interval is 10 kHz/step. Ifyou use this unit in an area where the frequency allocationsystem is 9 kHz/step, change the tuning interval.Hold down TUNER/AUX/BAND and press POWER on the mainunit.

    Tip:When the AM tuning interval is changed, all preset stationsare cleared.

    Bass and treble

    1 Press TONE repeatedly to d isplay "BAS" or "TRE"."BAS" : Adjusts the bass level

    "TRE" : Adjusts the treble level2 Within 6 seconds, turn VOLUME (pr ess VOLUME+,- on the remote control).Each level can be adjusted from "2" to "+5".

    If the sound becomes distorted, lower the level.

    TAPE PLAYBACK

    PlaybackUse only type I (normal) tapes.

    1 PresszPUSH EJECT to open the cassette holder.

    2 Insert the tape.Insert with the exposed side down and the side to be playedfacing out from the unit, and press zPUSH EJECT toclose the cassette holder.

    3 Pressc to start play.

    To stop playbackPresss.

    To rewind or fast forwardPressf org.

    To reset the tape counterPresss in stop mode, and the tape counter on the di splay isreset to "0000".Opening and closing the cassette holder will also reset thetape counter.

    To eject the tape

    Notes on cassette s

    Use of 120-mi nute or longer tapes is not recommendedsince they are extremely thin and easily deformed ordamaged.

    Wind up any slack in the tape with a pencil or simi lar toolbefore use. Slack tape may jam in the mechanism.

    On the remote control, hold down SHIFT and press REC/REC PAUSE to start recording.

    To clear the edit programPresss twice.

    To prevent accidental erasure

    Break off the plastic tab o f the cassette tape with a screwdriveror other pointed tool. To record on the tape again, cover thedetection slot with adhesive tape.

    Timer recordingTimer recording is available only for TUNER and AUX (with anexternal tim er) sources.

    1 Hold dow n SHIFT and press TIMER on the remotecont rol repeatedly so that "5 REC" is displayed.

    2 Within 6 seconds, press SET.

    3 Pressf org to set the tim er-on t ime, andpress SET.Each press changes the tim e in 1- mi nute steps.Holdi ng these buttons down will vary the time in 10- minuteunits.

    4 Pressforg to select the source, and pressSET. For timer recording of a radio broadcast, select "TU".

    You will select the band later i n step 7. For timer recording of the equipment connected to the

    AUX IN jacks, select "AUX".

    5 Press f or g to set the timer-activatedduration, then p ress SET.With each press, the timer-activated duration changes in5- minute steps between 5 to 240 minutes.

    6 Pressf org to adjust the volume for tim errecord ing, and pr ess SET.

    The volume level can be adjusted from 0 to 16.7 Prepare the source.

    To record the radio, select the band and tune in the desiredstation.To record external equipment connected to the AUX INjacks, set an external timer for the equi pm ent so that itsplayback begins at the same time.

    8 Insert the recording tape and then turn the unitoff."5 REC" remains on the display to indicate the timerstandby mode.

    At timer-on time, the unit turns on and records the selectedsource. After the specified timer-activated duration, theunit turns off again.

    To stop timer setting in steps 3 to 6, presss.Timer standby mode i s also canceled.

    Connected equipment cannot be turned on or o ff by the built-in timer of thi s uni t. Use an external tim er.

    When setting the timer on the unitHold downs and pressf in stop m ode.Repeat the above to select timer playback, timer recording ortimer off mode, and use TONE instead of SET on the remotecontrol in the following steps.

    To check the timer settingHold down SHIFT and press TIMER on the remote controlrepeatedly so that "5 PLAY" or "5 REC" appears on thedisplay.

    The timer-on ti me, the source and the timer-activated durationare displayed for 6 seconds.

    To change the timer settingReset the timer again .

    To cancel the timerHold down SHIFT and press TIMER on the remote controlrepeatedly unt i l "5 OFF" i s d i sp layed. "5 " o r

    "5 REC" d isappears from the display.Tip:Your timer setting is retained even if the timer is canceled.Next time the timer is activated, you can change your previoussetting, or simp ly use the same setting again.
