• Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment.

What is compost?



• There are developed quality standards.– Government – Private composting association

• For a example Canada has developed 3 standards– A national Canadian standard for the composting

industry (BNQ);– Guidelines for compost (CCME); and– The adoption of new mandatory criteria for compost

(AAFC).

How to measure the quality?

High amount of trace elements

No pathogenic organisms

No organic contaminants

Contain humic substances

Good physical characters

Good chemical characters
