Students will discover what an engineer does and even more exciting, inquisitively createtheir OWN hands-on projects using the engineering design process. Enter a world of innovation, imagination, and learning. This semester's offeringis Introductory Minecraft and Hardware engineering! We start off the semester as computer software engineers using MinecraftEDU as our virtualplatform. Juniors will learn the basics of how to navigate through Minecraft and engineer a virtual world of their own! Later on in the semester we willexplore the world of computer animation and hardware engineering! Using Scratch 2.0 (software designed by MIT!) and electronic makey makeykits, students will go on a musical adventure where they program musical animations on a laptop and then connect it to hardware to create aninteractive game!

We kickoff the semester exploring the world of hardware engineering,where we will use electronic makey makey kits to design and build electronic gadgets and mechanisms (while learning about the mechanics ofmechatronics!). Later in the semester, students will become gamer designers - using clickteam fusion software to develop actual platform games inthe style of mario kart! By the end of semester, students will have the opportunity to take their minecraft skills to the next level with turtles - powerfulcreatures we can code to achieve virtual challenges!

MitsiDancing School and Dance of Asian America are the only Chinese Dance School and Company to have our own city-wide productions at MillerOutdoor Theatre twice a year. Teacher Description

This class is for the beginner student. The course is a combination Ballet and Chinese dance class and will be taught entirely in ChineseMandarin Language. 30 minutes of the course will include ballet, which covers the following but will progress at a constantly challenging and funlevel for the kids: Basic feet and arm positions, Across the floor traveling steps, Barre work and center (Plie, tendu, degage, rond de jambe,battement, sautes, etc.), Stretch for flexibility. Chinese has 56 ethnic groups containing different cultures, traditions and history. We will teach adance from a different ethnic group yearly so the children can take a journey to China through their dancing. They will learn of the culture, traditionsand history embedded in the dance and its movements and will master the skills in each dance. The dance can be performed at the School'sChinese New year festival or other events. They may also join Mitsi Dancing School recital which is coming up on our 33rd anniversary next year.The show is an entirely professional production with Chinese dance, modern/contemporary dance, Lyrical dance and Jazz dance in the first half ofthe show and a full ballet (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, etc.) in the second half. More info on the Mitsi Dancing Schoolrecital will be given to students in class. NOTE: Proper attire is necessary to attend each class as follows and may be purchased as needed due tothe growth of your child: Leotard - $13, Ballet Shoes - $12, Ballet tights $10. USA Chess has been teaching children from beginners to experienced tournament chess players for over 15 years. Our staff is carefully selectedboth for their ability to play (all are experienced tournament players) and to teach the game in a fun, entertaining and interesting way.

Teacher Description

Children of all ages and abilities will be taught the game of chess from experienced tournament players. Lessons are tailored to the abilities of theclass. Beginners will be taught the basics (how the pieces move, the rules, etc. ) while more experienced players will be given problems to solve,lessons in tactics, checkmates, openings, etc. Children will be split into groups by ability if more than 20 children enroll.

The Monart school of art has been serving Houston for over 8 years. We pride ourselves in teaching free hand drawing with a progressive andunique step-by-step drawing curriculum. Monart teachers have been trained in the "Monart" methodology, which was founded by Ms. Mona Brooks,the author of teaching children how to draw; our core strength is that children learn how to break down any image into simple elements and drawthem independently. Along with excellent art skills, they have a passion to teach. They are patient and work well with all students to help themovercome their difficulties.

Students are taught illustration & animation prior to game design. In the Spring term students will further their knowledge into 'Step event' , 'Paths','Levels', and 'Conversion'. From the middle of the Spring 2016 semester, students will proceed to 'Sculptress' and 3D printing. 3D Printing will bedone at the Bellaire studio.

Bayou City Fencing Academy is the oldest and largest fencing facility in Harris County. Our instructors have extensive experience teaching in bothpublic and private schools. They themselves have all been exceptional fencers. Our fencers have won gold medals in local, state and nationaltournaments and have gone on to some of the most prestigious universities with fencing scholarships. We are a member of the United StatesFencing Association and as such have hosted National as well coordinated the Houston NCAA fencing championships and senior and juniorOlympics.

Crafty Scraps was founded in 2008 by an Art Educator and Director of a 501 (c) 3 Nonprofit. Crafty Scraps has worked with youth for the last eightyears collaborating with Alief ISD, Houston ISD, Pasadena ISD, The Ronald McDonald House, Lone Star College and day cares such as Primrose,Kids R Kids and Child Time. Crafty Scraps goal is to give you more than what's expected by including Science, Technology, Engineering,Mathematics and Empowerment into all of our lessons and projects!!!!

An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of 4-8 year old students. Students learn torecognize the elements of shape. This program has the progressive curriculum. It is structured to give enough structure to succeed and enoughfreedom to express. The curriculums for the 1st semester will be handed out in the first class. All art work will be placed into their individualportfolios along with a progress report and be handed back at the last class.

Upscale Music Studio is lead by Linda Singer, classically-trained pianist who has studied piano for twenty-five years. She performed for formerPresident George H.W. Bush and former Secretary of State James Baker III, as a pianist at the Houston Club. In the summer of 2015 she performedin the Interharmony International Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy. In the summer of 2014, she sang with the Christ United Methodist Church ofSugar Land Festival Choir at the Sing Mit Festival in Vienna, Austria and also in Budapest and Prague. She also sang with that choir in CarnegieHall in New York City. She currently studies piano with Julliard graduate Dr. Ilgin Aka and has previously studied with professors at the ShepherdSchool of Music and the Moores School of Music in Houston, Texas. All studio instructors are accomplished musicians and have extensive trainingand experience in teaching.

This private class will provide the student one on one instruction. The student will develop a love of the guitar by learning how to play differentchords, as well as learning music theory. He/she will learn an appreciation of this instrument by learning a variety of genres: rock and roll; children’ssongs; jazz, rags and blues; holiday and other popular music. Required: Practice and an instrument at home is required. A recital at the completion ofeach semester will be scheduled. Students must bring their own guitar to class. We strive to encourage and educate young children. By providing self-empowerment classes we are able to educate the youth with a funand unique twist. Games and art are a collaboration of how our camps promote positive self-image and awareness skills. In return we also help ouryouth recognize the importance of inner beauty and to enhance their outer beauty through our mentorship. Children will also have the opportunity toparticipate in a community service project. Project Princess regularly host camps for “The Ronald McDonald House”, “Star of Hope” and select HISDelementary schools.

Our lead robotics instructor is a computer engineer. He conducts various workshops and clinics for our instructors in the latest and mostinnovative practices in STEM robotics. Our teachers have extensive experience in working with children and teens.

Hands-on learning takes place in small groups of students who design, program and assemble robots using the familiar Lego bricks and STEMFinity modules. Students are exposed to basic engineering and mechanical principles as they study how things work and move. Above all ourclasses encourage creativity and problem solving and are FUN.

Jumpbunch is a woman-owned business owned and operated in Houston, Texas. JumpBunch has been keeping kids fit in Houston for 14 yearsand has provided the unique program in over 100 private and public schools in 7 districts. All instructors and staff are CPR certified, have nocriminal background have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children. The owner, Cindy Taylor, is the managing director. BeforeCindy started JumpBunch in Houston, she was the Director of Sales for Clear Channel communications and has over 25 years of sales, marketingand teaching experience. Cindy has a Bachelor’s degree from Emerson College in Boston, MA.

JumpBunch is a sports and fitness class for kids in Elementary School. We introduce NEW and EXCITING sports and fitness activities each week!In addition to just having fun, we will work with the children to build confidence, coordination and to help instill healthy physical habits early. We usea hands-on approach with age-appropriate equipment. The children have a chance to see, touch and experience each sport. We will work oneye/hand coordination, large and fine motor skills, muscle development and body balance. All of these things will encourage the children to try newthings and develop high self-esteem. We will work on individual development, as well as teaching the kids how to work inside a group. With over50 activity plans, the children will get a wide variety of activities to enjoy-something different each week! Some of the activities will be: Hockey,Bowling, Badminton, Croquet, Hopscotch, Paddle Games, Horseshoes, Jump Roping, and if there is time, many more unique and fun activities!

Heis from Shaolin Temple in China, 32nd generation Shaolin Monk ((Kung Fu). This class is directed for the students with no experience in Kung FuInstruction and will be taught by Mr. William Nisbett.

Teacher Description

This course will consist of warm up, coordination exercises, conditioning, basic forms in Kung Fu, basics of self defense. This class is directed onlyfor the students who have completed Kung Fu in the previous school year.

Information regarding the ordering & costs of proper attire will be provided via your child with an order form for shirt, pants and shoes for a cost of$60.00 by the 2nd class meet. These costs are not included in the Tuition. Payments are to be made to the order of: Houston Shaolin Fung Fu.Please look for details from your child. Thank you.

Madison McBurney, the owner and operator of Mad About Hoops, has been in business for 2 years. She has worked in the after school setting for 9years and has been a professional hula hooper for 4 years. She's a UH Grad.

Mad About Hoops is a hula hoop after school class that encourages kids to stay fit by having fun. Each week the kids will learn a new hoop trick,practice proper stretching and play hula hoop inspired games.

Mad Science of Houston has over 25 instructors on staff. All instructors go through DPS FAST Background checks. They all have paid experienceworking with children, have out going personalities and are specially trained to make science fun and educational.

Dust off those lab coats and put on your goggles. It is time for Science....Mad Science! Students will learn Science through fun, hands-on classesfilled with exciting experiments and interactive demonstrations. Each week children will cover a different science topic and take projects so theycontinue to have fun at home.

MCLIMS will establish the Program of Ma Liping Chinese Curriculum (short for MLP Program) for the school year 2015-2016 school years for nativespeakers. Dr. Liping Ma Chinese Language Curriculum was specially designed for native speakers who already understand the spoken Chineseand wish to learn it as a heritage language. The curriculum includes a complete set of multi-media format homework in each lesson, completelyfocuses on the skills required, with a fun game of text ‘spelling’, and is loved by all children. Dr. Ma believes that for children who already speakthe language, the purpose of learning pinyin is not for studying characters or learning to speak but for using Chinese dictionary or Chinese wordprocessor as well as guiding the student to be independent at a higher level.To prepare for this, Pre MLP will be offered beginning this school year for the student to study their Chinese Language studies at a higher levelindependently.
