• All Detroit engines are compliant to 2017 Greenhouse
Gas (GHG17) Regulations
• Changes to meet the more stringent standard for CO2
emissions reduction
• Built-in Detroit Proprietary Turbo
• Re-designed EGR System
• 2nd Generation ACRS System
• Updated 1-Box ATS
• GHG17 FE improvements over GHG14
• DD13 – 2.0 %
• DD15 – 1.1 %
• DPF Ash Cleaning Interval up to 550K
• The Detroit DT12 transmission has been refined and improved
• The exterior and gear ratios remain nearly the same
• Internal changes improve efficiency and reduce friction
• Improved or “Super-finish” of gear teeth reduces parasitic power loss
• Reduction of oil reservoir
• Low viscosity transmission oil – (75W85 )
• Estimated Total Fuel Efficiency Improvement
over current DT12
• Direct Drive up to 0.3%
• Over Drive up to 0.9%
New Cascadia will only offer new DT12, not current
STD Features
• The Super finished gears on the new
Detroit DT12 transmission utilize the
REM Rapid ISF Super finish process
• Daimler and Detroit are the first major
manufacturing organization to
industrialize this process at this level
Super finish grinding
STD Features
IPM4 - software and algorithm enhancements provide up to a 1.3% improvement in fuel economy over IPM3.
• IPM is feature of cruise control that uses terrain maps and GPS to anticipate the route ahead up to 1+ miles (2 KM)
• IPM uses shifts, acceleration, engine braking and coast vs. eCoast optimization to efficiently operate the powertrain
The efficiency improvements with IPM4 revolve around longer event periods that help maximize forward momentum.

Detroit Drive Axles
• Updated single and tandem rear axles feature new heavy-duty drives
• lower fuel consumption
• Standard tandem axle for New Cascadia (2.41 ratio)
• Low viscosity and friction optimized oil
• Gear set and carrier optimization
• Faster rear axle ratios to support downspeeding
• FE improvement of up to 0.5% compared to current Detroit Model 4 tandem
STD Features
Building on the success of the current
integrated Detroit Powertrain, some
further economy improvements have
been made….
and now the New Cascadia paired with
the integrated Detroit Powertrain is an
even more powerful fuel economy
combination!
The downspeeding concept improves fuel economy by shifting usable power and
torque to a lower RPM range.
• The slower the engine turns at cruise speed, the less fuel is used
• The sooner the torque availability, the more a truck can cruise in top gear

as axle ratio availability is expanded over an 18
month period.

IDP Feature
Axle Lubrication Management Reduces Churning Losses
•Transmission gear •Vehicle speed •Engine output torque •Forward rear axle temperature •Rear axle temperature
Axle Lubrication Management – ALM feature for new Cascadia (Required any w/IDP package)
• A ring gear cover with valve actively regulates the oil level
• Reduces “churning” associated with the ring gear moving through the oil
• Reduction in parasitic loss leads up to a total 1.5% FE improvement over current standard Detroit axles
The Concept of Axle Lubrication Management or “ALM” • ALM limits oil flow around the ring gear
• Limiting oil flow makes the pinion easier to turn with less oil to stir up

There are essentially 4 powertrain specs we’re trying to drive to:
• DT12 is an enabler for faster ratios. As you can see highlighted in red, in the future we will be getting down to even faster ratios.
• Encouraging cruise control usage and use of predictive technology like Intelligent Powertrain Management (IPM4) is imperative!
