ManagementPractices Of N.R. Narayan Murthy

How to Build a GreatCompanyPerformance Measurement : Measures performance against value. Peoples performance in the knowledge industry is as valuable as gold. By introducing ESOPs he motivated his employees to work smart and hard.

Pioneer in HRM :Software is a knowledge business hence the focus is shifted to Brainware. He started ESOPs that is real distribution of wealth. Now it is very common in the industry to have ESOPs but it has done wonders in Infosys.

Social Being :Putting the public good ahead of private good in every decision he makes. It practices CSR very well. Rehabilitation drive, literacy program, donations, etc. are few ways in which he works for the society.

Underlying Practice:This helps to lay the foundation to build a healthy relationship. It is better to have a small part of a large, growing pie; than a large part of small shrinking one.

Strategy(Customer is the King) :Being unique in the marketplace and making sure that they are the 1st mover.Tap the need of the customer and give them more than they expect.Mr. Murthy says that Growth comes from repeat business, repeat business comes from relationship with customer are built on trust and trust is built by delivering quality products.

Respect:Success requires no explanation and failure permits none.People need to respect themselves enough so that their self-confidence remains intact whether to succeed or fail.

Delegation of Authority:His behavior is delegating type. Each company within the group has its own specific strategies and aspirations and thereby makes its decisions.

Adversity:Always raising the confidence of followers.Always making employees understand that tough times are part of life and they will come out better at the end of it. Sustaining the hope of employees.

Values:For creating a successful organization, it requires creating trust in people. And to create trust, the leader has to subscribe to a value system: a protocol for behavior that enhance the confidence, commitment and enthusiasm of the people.

Sharing is Caring:Infosys decided to share a portion of its equity with employee. This helped them retain talent and gave employees a sense of ownership. Murthy is proud of having given away stocks worth over 50,000 crore to employees. So as a leader he always believed in employee welfare.

Enhancing Trust :He brought transparency at Infosys.Has created an environment where each other feels secure enough to be able to disclose his or her mistakes, and resolves to improve.

Talent spotting and Division of Labor:Murthy is known to have an eye for talent and a talent for dividing labor. Narayan Murthy knows that the success depends on placing right people at right task. He developed an ability to identify the strengths of his team member and utilize to them optimally.

Getting Rich but Honestly:Rich businesses were considered to be dirty in the days when the country had a socialist bent. Infosys was a company which got rid of this sentiment.Murthy, with his no compromise policy on greasing palms and doing ethical business, set the standards

Two mottos:He always kept in mind two Sanskrit sentences:Sathyannasti Paro Dharma (There is no dharma greater than adherence to truth); Satyameva jayate (truth alone triumphs). He let these be his motto for good corporate leadership.

Management is getting work through people, but real management is Developing people through work
