Johannesburg: For 14 long years, SouthAfrica has been the unconquered final fron-tiervictory has eluded India on three ear-lier visits and nine different Test match-es here. And when the first Test began atthe Wanderers on Friday, even the ghostsdidnt give them a chance.
On Monday, India overcame all these hur-dles and the many devils in their own mindsto script a sensational turnaround and scorethe sweetest of victories. The cocky South Africansjust didnt know what hadhit them as the Indians bat-ted, bowled and fielded like men possessedfor a remarkable 129-run vic tory.
Its unbelievable, Rahul Dravid toldTOI, as he warmly hugged his little sonwhile the team danced around him. Itsa special moment for this group, he saidlater at a press conference. To come toSouth Africa and achieve our first-everTest victory is a truly great feeling. Wecelebrated appropriately, he said, flash-ing a huge grin, but refusing to reveal any-thing more.
TOI was, however, there to watch the
action from up close and its tempted tosay just one thingthe celebrations were
scarcely appropriate. Perhaps for thefirst time in their lives,as a group the teammembers shed their inhibitions and be-haved like a bunch of wild boys.
The action began as soon as the partyshifted indoors in the sanctity and pri-vacy of the dressing room.Suddenly, andas if on cue,all the players converged onthe hall and started screaming at the topof their voices. Then,a dozen champagne
bottles miraculously ma-terialised.
As the captain andcoach took gentle sips,
Virender Sehwag reached out for one ofthe bottles. And without warning, and asfast as his bat comes down to meet the ballon his good days, he shook the bottle andsprayed the contents on everybody he couldlay his eyes on. Within seconds it had be-come an open wareverybody throwingeverything on everyone else.
Everyone has gone berserk, saidDravid, as he broke away from the partyto carry out his duties as captain. We willcontinue partying later in the evening,
he added.

New Delhi: While reversing the acquit-tal of Manu Sharma, the Delhi highcourt on Monday questioned the bonafides of the trial court verdict delivered
by S L Bhayana, who is now himself ajudge of the high court.
The high court held that Bhayanasdecision to discard the testimony ofprosecution witness Deepak Bhowaninot only reflects total lack of applica-tion of mindbut also suggests a hastyapproach towards securing a particularend, namely the acquittals.
And if that wasnt enough, there wasa liberal sprinkling of adjectives likestrange, totally wrong, immatureand positively perverse in the highcourt order as it punched more holes inadditional sessions judge S L Bhayanas
verdict setting the accused free. The high court pointed out a contra-
dictionthe trial court, while relyingon the evidence of certain witnesses toshow that four of the accused werepresent in the restaurant, also doubtedtheir very testimony without evenmaking a real analysis of their evi-dence.

New Delhi: Someone did kill Jessica Lall, after all. And itwas,as many had suspected,Manu Sharma, the son of an in-fluential politician, who almost got away by threatening orpaying off witnesses, leaving the country in shocked outrage.Exactly 300 days after Manu and his friends were allowed towalk free by the trial court of S L Bhayana, the Delhi high
court on Monday convicted Manu formurdering Jessica. He is back in TiharJail after a lapse of almost five years.Manu will receive his sentence onWednesday itll either be death or alife term at the minimum.
Justice and truth have finally pre-vailed. The conviction of the killer inthis sensational casewhich broughtthousands of people out on to the streetsto protest against Manus acquittal, withcandlelight vigils and silent marcheshas restored peoples faith in the rule oflaw: even those with awesome clout haveto pay for their crime.
My father died waiting to hear thisverdict, said Jessicas sister Sabrina. His soul will now be able to rest inpeace.Sabrina also thanked the media:I thank you guys who started the cam-paign for justice for Jessica.Justice forJessica,as our readers will recall, was aTOI campaign. She also sought a life sen-tence for Manu, not death. The outrageover Jessica also trained the spotlight ontwo other sensational murders that ofPriyadarshini Mattoo and Nitish Katara.
Coming to Mondays dramatic ver-dict, a bench comprising Justices R SSodhi and P K Bhasin also convictedVikas Yadav, son of tainted ex-MP
D P Yadav, and former cola company ex-ecutive Amardeep Singh Gill for con-spiring with Manu to destroy the evi-
dence of his presence at the crime scene.Yadav and Gill werefound to have returned to the restaurant after Jessicas mur-der on the night of April 29, 1999 to take away Manus Tata Sa-fari. They are liable to get a maximum sentence of seven years.
At Last, Justice For JessicaNo one killed Jessica, said TOI the day after her killer was set free by the trial court. The acquittal generated countrywideoutrage. Many of you came out on the streets to protest the verdict. Exactly 300 days later, the high court has overturned the
verdict. Manu Sharma is the killer, the HC has ruled. Tomorrow well know whether he gets death or a life term. The new verdict is as much a victory of justice as a tribute to your determination to see that the killer doesnt go scot-free
