A complete programme.

Chassis for bodies of all kinds.

The wide range of MAN bus chassis embraces the whole world

of buses. There are chassis for solo vehicles, articulated buses

and double-deckers – in both the classic and semi-low-floor de-

sign as well as the pure low-floor version. For coaches you have

a choice ranging from the 2-axle type with front-mounted engine

to the 15 m 3-axle model with engine at the rear – and practical-

ly all chassis are available in right-hand and left-hand drive.

Of course, that also applies to club buses, mobile homes or

horse boxes and almost all types of special bodies.

Owing to the great flexibility of the design of MAN chassis mod-

els almost everything is feasible: different wheelbases, engine-

gearbox combinations, axle and suspension variants – every-

thing is there for you to pick. And there are still many more

things.

MAN power as required.

MAN diesel engines are fast on the flat, powerful on hills and

agile in every situation. They are the right choice for your and

your customers. Spontaneous power development even at low

engine speeds and the maximum torque maintained over a wide

engine speed range are their hallmarks that translate into few

gearshifting operations at high average speeds, smooth running

and fascinating ride dynamics.

The sophisticated 6-cylinder in-line engines with turbocharging

and intercooling are also available with EDC including cruise

control. The advantages of EDC: smooth engine running right

after a cold start, stable idle speed control, optimum engine be-

haviour in every operating situation and smoke-free moving-off

and accelerating operations.

The modern 6-cylinder gas engines that MAN offers for certain

chassis are also right on course for the future. Fired by eco-

friendly natural gas (CNG), their pollutant emissions (EEV stan-

dard) are even considerably below the limits fixed for Euro 5.

The MAN TEPS electronic structure.

Electrifying your chassis.

Digital – just brilliant.

The TEPS (Twin Electric Platform System) electronic structure in line with ISO

standard 11898 comprises electronic modules known as CAN (Controller Area

Network) which monitor the functions in a particular area of the vehicle. These

modules are distributed throughout the chassis and linked together by just one

pair of cables, the so-called bus. The bus can transmit large numbers of digi-

talised commands and data in series. This multiplex system is called the CAN

bus and meets the requirements of EU directives 72/245/EEC and 95/94/EC. The

system functions through the networking of the CAN modules with the vehicle

management computer (FFR), which brings three fundamental advantages:

■ The electrical system can be constructed with considerably fewer cables, as

the CAN bus can perform the functions of a large number of conventional

cables. This also means a reduction in the number of connections and in the

risk of a cable failure.

■ The FFR integrates self-protection functions which can act on all vehicle

systems to prevent one of them being damaged through overloading or im-

proper use.

■ Thanks to the integrated diagnostic function the driver and, if necessary, the

service team can obtain more precise information if a fault or defect occurs.

This in turn shortens the time needed to rectify a problem.

New ergonomics.

The new MAN driver’s station is enticingly functional. No wonder:

it was designed taking the latest research into ergonomics into

account. The attractive chrome trim of the analog instruments is

a real eye-catcher. Also in the centre of the modern instrument

panel is the driver’s display with on-board diagnosis for monitoring

operation and functions. Displays are clearly arranged, and

controls are easy to reach and use. An outstanding feature is the

new four-spoke steering wheel with adjustable height and incli-

nation.

MAN solutions pro environment.

Giving the air a break.

Clean without additives.

You fill up an MAN diesel chassis with diesel – and nothing else.

To comply with the Euro 4 limits MAN uses innovative exhaust-

gas technology with cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) and

the MAN PM-KAT®. This solution has both technical and financial

advantages: unlike other technologies it needs no other operat-

ing agents and is thus independent of any infrastructure for

them. That saves costs in maintenance and extra fluids. It also

has a much lower price and is cheaper to operate. The MAN

PM-KAT® is absolutely maintenance-free and eliminates an

above-average proportion of the smallest particles.

For markets outside Europe where no more than the Euro 3

standard is required MAN of course offers its proven, powerful

and low-consumption D20 and D08 engines without PM-Kat®. In

this way MAN’s range of engines comprises solutions tailored to

the international market to match the relevant emission regula-

tions.

Safely dynamic.

EBS, the electronic brake system.

With the aid of an electronic brake system called

EBS the propulsion and braking of MAN chassis

can be optimised. The electronic brake system in-

tegrates the basic electropneumatic brake (EPB)

function as well as the anti-lock braking system

(ABS) and anti-spin regulator (ASR). As it adjusts

the brake power to the braking situation in hand it

also reduces the wear on the parts involved and

thus improves the economy of the entire brake

system. It also makes monitoring and repairing the

brake system easier. Data can be exchanged be-

tween EBS and other systems (e.g. EDC) within

the vehicle’s entire electronic network (CAN = Con-

troller Area Network). As the individual systems are

coordinated with each other, their functioning is

even more efficient. Within the MAN BrakeMatic

system the function of the EBS is coordinated with

the application of the retarder and engine brake.
