MAMA HOPE ANNUAL REPORT

FISCAL YEAR 2014 EXECUTIVESUMMARY

Our most recent scal year came to a close on May 31st, 2015, and it’s been our biggest year ever. We are so thrilled to announce that in the last year we’ve raised over 1M, which has helped us serve 27,660 additional people and complete 12 more projects across Africa! We expanded our Global Advocate Program to include a Media Fellowship and an Executive Training program, through which we fostered partnerships with Glorious in Arusha, Tanzania and The Kula Project in Rwanda. We accepted 17 new Advocates into our fellowship program, and hired an East Africa Field Coordinator to focus on working with our partners on the ground to ensure project sustainability. Since 2008, we have completed 62 projects serving 150,000 people. We released two new Stop the Pity videos and launched our Men for Women Campaign, which has inspired men across the world to share their vision for human equality. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the generous support of our wholehearted donors. As always, our impact in Africa is due to our amazing partner organizations who are catalysts for change in their communities.

GLOBAL ADVOCATES We are so excited to announce the expansion of our Global Advocate Fellowship! Since our launch in October of 2012, we have taken on seven Advocate classes. These 35 individuals have come from all over the world, including Uganda, New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland and Brazil, and have raised over $1M for projects in Africa impacting 108,381 lives.

Due to the success of the Global Advocates, this year we were able to expand into a Media Fellowship and an Executive Training program. Our rst-ever Media Fellow Ryan LeClyuse just returned from 3 months traveling throughout East Africa to each of our partner communities, where he took photos and video in order to create an interactive multimedia platform that will tell our partner’s stories. At Mama Hope we truly believe in the power of collaboration rather than competition; the three Advocates who participated in our Executive Training program have enabled us to partner with new communities in Tanzania and Rwanda. Under the mentorship of our Founder Nyla Rodgers our Executive Advocates have raised $237,950 for their organizations Glorious and the Kula Project.

MAMA HOPE PROJECTSIn another exciting year, Mama Hope completed 12 more projects beneting 27,660 people. These projects included a community center in Uganda, a new primary school for girls and an urban farm in Kenya, a water project in Tanzania and 9 dierent sustainable agriculture initiatives, such as shponds, beehives and poultry projects. Our rapid and diverse growth can be attributed to our strong partnerships on the ground in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Uganda that allow us to focus our energy here at home while our partners orchestrate the planning and implementation of life-changing community projects.

UNITED HEARTS SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE INITIATIVES

This year United Hearts Children’s Center made great strides in ensuring the sustainability of their ongoing projects. UHCC continues to be a safe haven for children in the community and has been recognized by social welfare as one of the most trusted children’s centers in the Central Region. As one of Mama Hope’s longest running partnerships, we have been so proud to watch this community ourish and continue moving forward on their own.

With the help of a $20,000 grant from the Wyman Foundation, United Hearts was able to complete the rst oor of their school building and expand their services to over 100 children in the community. They were also able to expand their agriculture projects to 4 acres of palm nut trees, plantains, chili peppers and maize. The revenue from these projects, in combination with the goat farm and sh pond, will allow UHCC to cover 70% of their operational costs by the end of 2015.

*Special thanks to the Bert Wyman Foundation and Janey Piroli for their signicant contributions to the UHCC School.

Our projects in Tanzania continue to grow through new partnerships and income-generating activities. St. Timothy’s School has begun construction on a community hall which will serve as a place for the community to gather and hold events. We were able to build two new classrooms, which will expand St. Tim’s capacity to an additional 60 children.

At the Queen Elizabeth Academy we began construction on the QEA Boarding Home, which will serve over 100 children. We were also able to expand our permaculture and water projects to ensure continued sustainability for years to come.

We are also excited to announce our newest partnership in Tanzania with Glorious! Glorious is a nonprot based in Arusha, and their projects in education, healthcare, micronance and food security impact over 400 people. Our Advocate Brandie completed the Glorious Water Project, which will be essential for the future sustainability of their new school campus.

This has been a year of signicant progress for Budondo Intercultural Center (BIC) Programs, with the Suubi Health Center ocially opening in July of 2014. Since it’s opening, we have seen the community utilize its services in a number of ways - with over 1,000 patients receiving vaccinations, treatment for common illnesses, antenatal care and much more, Suubi is demonstrating that this small health clinic can and will save lives. Even more impressive are Suubi’s Community Health Outreach services, which reached 1,120 people in 2014.

Sustainability is also at the forefront of the BIC programs, with the Passion Fruit Farm and Budondo Community Hall serving as income-generating activities. Construction on the Community Hall is near completion, and the Passion Fruit Farm will have it’s rst full harvest in July. Both of these projects are on track to cover the operational costs of the Suubi Health Center.

ALI OSBORNEAKILI PREPARATORY SCHOOLWith the ocial opening of the Kisumu Rescue Center in December of 2014, we have been able to

expand our projects at OLPS. The Rita Rose Garden acquired two new sh ponds, an organic greenhouse and a goat farm in order to create diversied funding sources to support the KRC, which serves orphaned and vulnerable children in the community.

CTC International receieved funding from the William Zimmerman Foundation for a poultry farm and 10 beehives, which will directly support Cafe Ubuntu and CTC’s initiatives across Maai Mahiu.

Our most exciting new partnership has been with the Akili Preparatory School, which nished construction in May of 2015. The Akili Sustainable Farm expanded by adding two additional greenhouses, indigenous crops and a poultry farm, the sales of which contribute greatly to the local economy in the Obunga Slum. The next project for Akili is a boarding home, which will provide safe housing and access to education for Akili students.

The idea for the Global Advocates was born from the belief that one person living with passion could make a big dierence. Mama Hope and 7 classes of Global Advocates have proven that it is possible. Global Advocates are shaping this belief into tangible, positive change in our partner communities across East Africa and Ghana. Mama Hope has had 35 Advocates since the pilot phase. The success of the Global Advocates has allowed the program’s expansion into a Media Fellowship and an Executive traning program. Each branch of the Fellowship has proven our Connected Development model and helped connect our partner communities to the resources they need to thrive.

RYAN LECLUYSERyan joined the Global Advocates from Google X. As a photographer, illustrator, researcher and graphic designer, Ryan believes that storytelling has the power to bridge contexts, inspire true compassion and expand global community. Ryan raised $16,050 to create an interactive media platform that tells the stories of Mama Hope’s partner communities. His work will be instrumental in helping spread Mama Hope’s vision and mission, and change the face of international development.

HANNAH AMES BEAVERSHannah left her job as Finance manager at GE HQ to pursue her full-time role as the Founder of Glorious. She helped launch the Executive branch of the Global Advocate Program, which has enabled us to spread our Connected Development Model to new partners in East Africa. With Mama Hope’s traning and mentorship from our founder Nyla Rodgers, Hannah has raised over $100,000 for Glorious since October 2014. She is now recruiting and training Advocates to expand programs within the Glorious community.

GLORIOUS | TANZANIA

AMARA WATKIN-ANSONAmara was an Urban Agriculture Coordinator in Hartford, Connecticut before she joined the Global Advocates. She was the rst Advocate to work with our partner CTC International. Amara used her keen interest in permaculture to expand the UBUNTU Farm and initiate a community composting program. She was hired by CTC shortly after her fellowship ended, and returned to Kenya in January as the project manager of the farm, Cafe UBUNTU and their waste management programs.
