Before the Arkansas Activities Association’s (AAA) decision to sus- pend the 2020 season, due to concerns of COVID-19, the Malvern Leopards baseball team was able to start the season by playing in five games. After their benefit game against Bryant on Feb. 25, the Leopards opened the season on the road in Cam- den. The Leopards faced the Camden-Fairview Cardinals and lost 10-4. The Leopards then went on to compete in the 2020 Border Battle in Texarka- na. The Leopards faced three teams from Texas, Longview, The Colony, and Texas High School. The Leopards fell to all three schools, 10-2, 7-1, and 11-1, respectively. In their last game before the suspension, the Leopards took on 4A-7 conference opponent Nashville. The Leopards took Nashville into extra innings, but couldn’t get the win. The Leopards fell 2-1 to open conference play with a loss. So far for the 2020 sea- son, the Leopards have been able to rack up nine runs, have had 23 hits, six RBIs, six stolen bases, and have had 20 strikeouts. The Leopards overall re- cord stands at 0-5 and thei r conference record stands at 0-1. The AAA is scheduled to reassess the COVID-19 situation on March 30 and announce further plans. The Leopards are under the direction of first year head coach Jordan Knight and first year assistant coach Brooks Balisterri. The Leopards’ goal is to improve upon their 2019 record of 17-11 overall and 8-4 in conference. In 2019, the Leopards participated in the 4A state tournament where they lost to Bates- ville in the first round. The Leopards return 14 mem- bers from the 2019 season and added 12 more players for the 2020 season. AAA suspends all spring sports and activities

It was announced Friday morning that the Arkan-sas Activities Association (AAA) will suspend all spring interscholastic com-petition beginning Sunday and lasting until March 30 due to the growing concerns over COVID-19 virus.

On March 30, the AAA will reassess the COVID-19 situation, and announce fur-ther plans.

The AAA is the primary sanctioning body for high

school sports and activities in the state. The sports and activities sanctioned by the AAA are as follows:

The Malvern Lady Leopards softball team is under the direction of head coach Darryl Baker. Baker is assisted by Ja-cob Keeney and Kristen Weigand.

Before the suspension of the season by the Ar-kansas Activities Asso-ciation, the Lady Leop-ards went 3-1 in the four games they were able to play. The Lady Leopards opened the 2020 season against Lake Hamilton and won 11-1. The Lady Leopards then went on to win against Bismarck, 10-0, and Fordyce, 7-0. The Lady Leopards first loss came on the road at Nash-ville in 4A-7 conference play. The Scrapperrettes defeated the Lady Leop-ards 9-0 to give them a 0-1 conference record.

So far for the 2020 sea-son, the Lady Leopards have had 28 runs on 29 hits and 23 RBIs. Pitch-ing, the Lady Leopards have allowed 10 runs on 20 hits and have had 16 strikeouts.

In 2019, the Lady Leopards went 14-12 overall and 5-7 in con-ference. The Lady Leop-ards competed in the 4A regional tournament, but lost to Magnolia in the first round.

The Magnet Cove Pan-thers baseball started the 2020 season by going 5-2 overall before the Arkansas Activities Association’s (AAA) decision to suspend the season due to concerns of the COVID-19 virus. The AAA will meet on March 30 to reassess the COVID-19 situation.

The Panthers opened the season on the road at Nash-ville where they lost 6-5. The Panthers then went on a three

game win streak defeating Jessieville, 16-1; St. Joseph, 9-5; and Conway Christian, 16-3. The Panthers then lost in the Indian Classic Tour-nament, held at Poyen High School, to Woodlawn, 11-7 before bouncing back with a 12-0 win over Mountain Pine, also in the Indian Clas-sic Tournament. The Panthers last win was against Abundant Life on March 12. The Pan-thers won 16-6.

The Panthers are under the direction of head coach Rob-ert Webb.

The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers softball team went 2-1 overall to start the 2020 season.

The Lady Panthers had defeated Mount Ida in their opening game, 16-2 and defeated Lakeside

11-6. The Lady Panthers’ only loss this season came from South Side out of Bee Branch 4-2.

So far, the Lady Pan-thers have totaled 29 runs on 26 hits and 16 RBIs. Pitching, the Lady Pan-thers have allowed 12 runs on 15 hits and have had 28 strikeouts.

The Arkansas Activi-ties Association (AAA) suspended the 2020 sea-son on March 13 due to concerns about the COVID-19 virus. The AAA will reassess the situation on March 30.

The Lady Lions tied Ben-ton in their opening game. The Lady Lions then lost their next three games be-fore getting two wins. The Lady Lions lost to Malvern,10-0; Searcy, 6-4; and Lake

Hamilton 7-5. The Lady Li-ons’ first win came againstCamden Harmony Grove 7-5. The Lady Lions then kept the winning momentum as theydefeated arch rivals Center-point 7-1.

For theseason,sofar, theLady Lions have scored eight runson12hits,andhavehad4RBIs.Pitching,theLadyLi-onshaveallowed20 runson17 hits and have had 11 strike-outs.

The Lady Lions are coached by Bradley Loy.

The Beavers opened the season at Bauxite where they fell 10-0. The Beavers then competed in the Baux-ite FCA Tournament where they faced the Fountain Lake Cobras and fell 7-1.

For the season, the Bea-vers have recorded one run on three hits. The Beavers are coached by Joe Lewal-len.

The Glen Rose Lady Bea-vers played four games going 2-2 overall before the Arkan-sas Activities Association (AAA) suspended the 2020 season due to the concerns of COVID-19.

cy,4-3.TheLadyBeaversfi-nal game was to Beebe and ended in a 10-2 loss.

The Lady Beavers have started the season with 11 runs on 21 hits and have nine RBIs. Pitching, the Lady Bea-vers have allowed 16 runs on 16 hits and have had 28 strike-outs. The Lady Beavers are coached by Brett Haley.

The Ouachita Lady Warriors softball team was to open the 2020 season on March 16 against Gurdon. Due to the rising concerns of COVID-19, the Arkansas Activities Asso-ciation has since suspended the season until a reassessment of the situation on March 30.

The Lady Warriors were gearing up to overcome their 2019 record. The Lady War-riors went 6-9 overall and 4-1 in conference for 2019. The Lady Warriors participated in the 1A regional tournament, but lost in the fi rst round to Bradley.

The Lady Warriors return 10 players from 2019 and added seven new players to the ros-ter. The Lady Warriors are under the leader-ship of coach Corey Brown.

The Ouachita Warriors baseball team is coach by Anthony Nail. The Warriors started the 2020 season by going 0-5 to stout compe-tition. Due to the growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus, the Arkansas Activities Association suspended the season until reassessment of the situation on March 30.

The Warriors lost to Hot

Springs, 3-2; Rose Bud, 7-5; Prescott, 14-2; Horatio, 10-0; Junction City, 11-4.

The Warriors will look to improve upon their 2020 record once the season re-sumes. The Warriors went 17-10-1 overall in 2019 and were the 1A-7 District Cham-pions with an undefeated 6-0 record. The Warriors made the 1A state tournament in 2019 but lost to West Side in the fi rst round.

The Poyen Lady Indians softball team has been the 2A State Runner-up the past two seasons. Despite losing key senior in 2019, the Lady Indi-ans will look to get back to the title game once again in 2020.

The Lady Indians went 2-1 to start the 2020 season before the Arkansas Activities Asso-ciation suspended the season due to rising concerns of the COVID-19 virus.

The Lady Indians lost their season opener to Bauxite, 10-

0. The Lady Indians rebound-ed with two wins against St. Joseph, 15-0 and Bearden, 14-2.

For the season, the Lady Indians have racked up 15 runs on 20 and have had 14 RBIs. Pitching, the Lady In-dians have given up 10 runs on 18 hits and have had five strikeouts.

In 2019, the Lady Indians ended the season with a 28-2 overall record and were the 2A-5 South conference cham-pions with a 7-0 record.

Going 2-2 overall to start the 2020 sea-son, the Poyen Indians were on a two game win streak before the Arkan-sas Activities Associa-tion suspended the season due to concerns of the COVID-19 virus.

The Indians lost their first two games to Bauxite, 10-0 and St. Joseph, 10-3. The Indians bounced back against Bearden in the In-dian Classic Tournament, hosted at Poyen, defeating

them 10-0. The Indians’ second win came against Conway Christian, 9-3.

After a reassessment of the COVID-19 virus on March 30, the Indians will look to keep the win-ning momentum moving forward.

In 2019, the Indians finished the season with a 16-7 overall record and went 5-2 in the 2A-5 South conference. The Indians made the region-al tournament, but lost to Conway Christian in the first round.
