Project #1:
IGMP V3:
The Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is used by IPv4 systems(hosts and routers) to report their IP multicast group memberships to
any neighboring multicast routers.
Version 3 of IGMP adds support for 'source filtering', that is, the
ability for a system to report interest in receiving packets *only* fromspecific source addresses, or from *all but* specific source addresses,
sent to a particular multicast address. That information may be used by
multicast routing protocols to avoid delivering multicast packets fromspecific sources to networks where there are no interested receivers.
IGMP V3 has backward compatibility with IGMP V1 ,V2.
Project #2:
OSPF :
OSPF is a interior gateway protocol that routes Internet Protocol (IP) packets solely within a single
routing domain (autonomous system). It
gathers link state information from available routers and constructs a topology map of the network. The
topology determines the routing
table presented to the Internet Layer which makes routing decisions based solely on the destination IP
address found in IP datagrams. OSPF was
designed to support variable-length subnet masking (VLSM) and Classless Inter-Domain Routing
(CIDR) addressing models.
OSPF detects changes in the topology, such as link failures, very quickly and converges on a new loop-free routing structure within seconds.
It computes the shortest path tree for each route using a method based on Dijkstra's algorithm, ashortest path first algorithm.
