PARENT NEWSLETTER TERM 4 WEEK 1, 2017

Welcome back to Term 4 Welcome back to all teachers, students and parents for Term 4. We all hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday. Term 4 School Dates: Monday 9th of October to Wednesday 6th of December, 2017. Term 4 School Fees: A reminder to all parents, Term 4 school fees are now due. Normal school hours apply K-6 8:30am to 3:20pm and High school 8:30am to 3:30pm. Term 4 Curriculum overviews Teachers from every grade will send home an overview of what is occurring in your child’s grade this term. Full School Uniform: Please ensure your child is in full school uniform at all times including black school shoes and the Malek Fahd school jumper or blazer. Sports uniforms can only be worn on specified sport days. Rohingya Appeal A total of $3324 was collected for the Rohingya Appeal by the Hoxton park community. I cannot express how proud and privileged I am by the generosity of all the parents, teachers and students at Hoxton Park. A message from Mr Mohammed Aniz organiser of the Rohingya Appeal “My sincere and heartfelt thanks to the entire MFIS Hoxton Park community for their selflessness and generosity. This money will help many families and individuals with medical treatment, medicines, shelter and clothing. Please convey my gratitude to all the staff members who have helped make this possible.” Term 3 Parent / Teacher Interviews: Thank you to all parents who attended the Primary and Infants Departments Parent / Teacher interviews last term in week 10. Lost Property: A reminder to all parents if your child has lost a jumper, blazer or lunch box, it is in the Lost Property located in the administration office.

High School Excursion Year 7-8-9 excursion to Sydney Olympic Park for the 2017 Youth Eco Summit –Thursday 14th September Congratulations to Mahnoor Liaq for her extra-curricular achievement of winning the “Speaking for the Planet” public speaking competition. As a result MFIS Hoxton Park was invited to attend the Youth Eco Summit (YES) at Sydney Olympic Park on Thursday 14th September. The 2017 Youth Eco Summit provided high school students with a unique opportunity to share their sustainability projects, successes, innovations and ideas through student drama, film, debate, and persuasive talks about a greener planet. The Summit concluded with Mahnoor Liaq from MFIS Hoxton Park sharing her winning speech with a number of schools in the audience from all around Sydney.

Year 3-5-6 excursion to Wattamolla Royal National Park On Friday 15th September Years 3, 5 & 6, Stage 2 and Stage 3 visited Wattamolla, part of the Sydney Royal National Park. Upon our arrival we were fortunate enough to be greeted by one of the two tour guides appointed for us on the day. Margaret Burnes was responsible for looking after Stage 3 students and Martin was responsible for taking Stage 2 students. Having wonderful weather was a bonus and the warm welcoming reception and introduction which the guides provided the children was beautiful. They morning session started with an introductory talk about the environment and animals which was very engaging. The connection to the land by the Aboriginal group called the Darawul People was reinforced. Year 3 students were fortunate enough to see a diamond python up in the trees during the day. This was an experience the students will never forget. By the end of the day everybody was exhausted. This was because we headed out for a bushwalk into the heart of Wattamolla where no sound could be heard except for the rush of a waterfall.

Student Reports: All K-9 students at Malek Fahd Hoxton Park will receive their semester 2 report on the last day of school, Wednesday the 6th of December 2017. Hoxton Park Survey: At the end of term 3 all students were given a survey to fill out regarding Before and After School Care at Hoxton Park. Parents please fill in this survey and return it to your classroom teacher by Friday 13th October.

Upcoming events and activities - pencil into your diary

Kindergarten and Year 8 excursions to Taronga Zoo Friday 13th October week 1 term 4. K-9 Swimming Program starts Monday 16th October, week 2 term 4 Year 9 Science Excursion Tuesday 17th October, week 2 term 4 Kindergarten Orientation Tuesday 24th October, week 3 term 4. The orientation will begin at 9am in the school hall.
