Male Gaze

The way in which men look at women, which can often objectify them. It is also the way women look at themselves and at each other.

This is often the gaze which the audience have to view women when watching films and tv shows as they are attractive and usually only exist because of a male character.

Women are inferior to men, and are used for visual pleasure.

Female Gaze

It can be argued that there is no such thing as the female gaze, and it isn't equivalent to the male gaze. However, there is a female gaze in the sense that there are a lot of things women fetishize over such as power, capability and virility.

Women can use men as a way to motivate them and similarly women can be the prize for men.

Do you agree with these theories?

I agree that there is a gaze for both genders. The male gaze particularly relies upon attractive women as they like to gaze upon their physical attributes, especially their assets. Similarly, women are same towards men as they too gaze upon physical appearances like their abs, veins, jawline etc. I also agree that the person gazing has dominance over the person being gazed upon, as there is nothing that the person can do about it.

Pretty Little Liars

An example of this is in Pretty Little Liars (season 2, episode 4) where we see Aria glancing over Jason. Jason is playing basketball, a manly sport, with his shirt off; showing his muscular body which is found attractive by women.

This clip shows Mr. Fitz (Ezra) being taken back by Aria's beauty, and he was shocked to see her again after a night out. Once again, this shows how males are easily distracted by women; especially when they are attractive.
