2. The Joget

  • This is known as the most popular traditional dance in Malaysia and is performed at cultural festivals, weddings and other social events.

3. This dance has been originated back to the Portuguese and was brought to Malacca during the time of the spice trade. 4. This particular dance is done with couples at a fast paced tempo with playfulness and teasing among the couples. 5. The dance tempo can be compared to the Western style step ball change. 6. Datun Julud

  • The Datun Julud dance was said to be originally created by a Kenyah prince named Nyik Selung

7. To create a beat for the dance a Sape (like a Banjo) is used, accompanied by clapping hands and singing. 8. This dance is used to express happiness and gratitude and give thanks to the gods for blessing the dance and allowing it to be accepted among the Kenyah tribe. 9. The Tarian Lilin

  • Also known as the candle dance, is a very graceful dance typically performed by women.

10. This type of dance takes a lot of skill to control the candles that are placed in the palms of the dancers' hands. 11. The dance was originated from Sumatra and is a performance about a young woman who was left behind by her suitor who left to go find wealth. While away the woman lost her engagement ring and searched into the night with the help of a candle. 12. Sources
