Fabio Banchio graduated in History of Modern and Contemporary Music from the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Turin. He subsequently gained his Diploma at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Turin in Piano, Composition and Wind Orchestra Instrumentation. His final year degree dissertation was titled The Piano Inheritance of Niccolò Paganini, which became part of the prestigious Indiana University Libraries. A pupil of Irene Rista (1986-1993), Felice Quaranta (1985-87), Riccardo Piacentini (1993- 2001) and Sandro Satanassi (2004-5), Banchio has also attended courses and seminars with Franco Oppo (CRIM, 1996), Riccardo Piacentini (Vasto International Music Seminar, 1997), Lorenzo Della Fonte and Eugene Migliaro Corporon (Cremona, 2002-3) and Y. M. Kinoshita (Mondovì, 2010). During the Italian premier of Riccardo Piacentini’s spiritual drama Mal’akhim, Banchio worked with the Rive-Gauche Concerti, the Teatro Regio in Turin and RAI-Radio 3. From 2000 to 2003 he conducted the ANA concert band of Pinerolo, participating, amongst other things, in the national meetings in Brescia, Genoa, Catania and Aosta. In 2002, in association with Elisabetta Giai (violin), he set up the “Antonio Vivaldi” duo, a formation with which he performed in historical locations such as the Castello di Mercenasco, Villa Bodo, Villa Sassi, Villa Doria, Villa Somis and Villa Conforti. As a pianist, he played in the musical Pinocchio, with music by Pooh (a leading Italian rock band), produced by the “Musicanta” Scuola d’Arte e Spettacolo and, on the occasion of the Turin Olympics, for CIO and Mercedes-Benz. As a composer, arranger and programmer, he has worked in association with well known dance music publishers such as Galletti-Boston, Saar, Balla con Noi, DiscoTop, Sandrinita, Akumal and La Nuova Edizione. As an arranger he oversaw the version for choir and concert band of the Olympic Anthem performed in Pinerolo during the presentation of the Turin Olympics in 2006; the instrumental version - with solo trumpet by Emilio Soana - of the international hit Sierra Madre; music for several scenes of Carlo Mazzacurati’s film La giusta distanza; and various elaborations of the vocal sextet “Sei Sottochiave” (which recently appeared in the X Factor) and the choir of the 3rd Alpini Regiment “Bric Boucie”. In 2008, together with M° Guido Neri (viola) he set up the duo “Non solo Classica”, which has become the official duo of the Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo.

On the invitation of the Municipality of Carignano (Turin) in 2009, he instrumented and conducted the version for concert band of the Fanfara e Marcia Reale di Ordinanza dell’Esercito Italiano by Gabetti to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the death of king Charles Albert of Savoy. Paired with M° Guido Neri has given recitals in Italy and abroad, performing in Rome, among other things the presence of the Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello and, at the invitation of the “Dante Alighieri”, the Universal Peace Federation and Association “Caravaggio” in Stockholm and at the Akademiska Kapellet Musicum and Studieförbundet Vuxenskoland of Uppsala. He is regular guest on the occasion of the Feast of Piedmont, which is held annually at the cities of St. Peter Val Lemina and Frossasco (Turin). In 2009, on the 20th anniversary of the twinning of San Pietro Val Lemina (Turin) with Cordoba, he received the Certificate of Merit, having been nominated by the Chairman of the Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo, Michele Colombino, for “documented promotional activity in favour of Piedmont, its people, its traditions and its culture both in Italy and in the world”. He collaborates with the International Rotary Foundation and Lions Clubs International. He is co-director, along with M° Elisabetta Giai, of the children choir “Piccoli Cantori padre Médaille” of the primary school of the “Maria Immacolata” Institute in Pinerolo, a formation with which he recently won the competition promoted by the AIMC (Associazione Italiana Maestri Cattolici) and by the Centro Giovani Diocesano di Pinerolo, the Festival “Voci in coro” organized by the City of Turin with the collaboration of ITER (Istituzione Torinese per una Educazione Responsabile) as well as, with the song A fairy of goodness ( music by Fabio Banchio - text by Mario Scrivano), the fourth place in the international competition “ In unison for a dream ... ” held in Busca (Cuneo) from 16 May to May 17, 2011. During the concert held in March 2010 at the Auditorium of the Fondazione Ferrero in Alba for the bicentenary of Argentina, on commission of the Filarmonica Pinerolese of Frossasco, he arranged for concert band passages from past and recent Piedmontese popular tradition and songs that have accompanied the history of emigration. He is author of the piano collection Il bianco e il nero (Music publishing Eufonia). In 2011, on the occasion of the international motoring event “Long live the car”, paired with M° Guido Neri, has played at the National Automobile Museum of Turin, and the crowning

of the initiatives for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy at Palazzo Chiavarina of Rubiana, the historical seat of Piedmontese culture and Famija Turinèisa. Along with his work as a teacher, composer and arranger, he is conductor of the Filarmonica Candiolese “Antonio Vivaldi”, with which he has held concerts in Italy and abroad.
