Make ICT Manageable!

• ICT Monitors (individuals for COW, camera and batteries, class computers, video camera, microphones, Blog moderation, Wiki discussion watch, data projector/IWB…

Peer Tutors

• Train “experts” to act as managers. • use the ‘learn something and pass it on’

approach.• Ensure systems are in place so children know

who to see when there are technical issues, new skills to learn or support needed.

• Have older children work with younger children in a buddy style programme.

• Share ‘products’ by the children regularly.

Develop an Awareness of

Guided Reading/Shared Writing

• If you have a ‘COW’ you have access to a whole lot of reading material via blogs, wikis and the world wide web.

• If you have a data projector or an IWB, you can model how to give feedback and how to comment on posts.

Join the Children up as Members!

• Teaching and learning needs to integrate web tools and critical thinking skills.

• As members, children can participate by giving feedback and comments.

Let Go!

• With teaching and guidance - children can gain a sense of “ownership” about their online sites.

Passwords Need to be Systematic

• Set up the memberships in January.

• Ensure children understand the difference between “learning” and “social” networks.

• Establish clear rules and guidelines for membership.

• Award membership when individuals are ready.

Get the Community Involved!

• Homework tasks can include reading/commenting on blogs, sharing current learning on “Look What I Learnt Today!” pages.

• Parent education evenings or, inclusion of blogs/wikis in “Meet the Teacher” evenings.

• Involving ‘working’ parents as mentors - they could read and comment…

Don’t Go it Alone!

• Find a colleague who is keen to follow in a similar direction.

• Online networks can be fantastic support!• Twitter - feedback, ideas, support and sharing!
