The organisers of the 33rd IGC invite you to attend the

Global launch of OneGeology By best-selling author, Simon Winchester

The prime objectives of OneGeology are: to make geological map data accessible on the Internet, to accelerate the interoperability of geoscience data, and to share know-how and expertise in digital map web deliv-ery. At a time when trans-national environmental problems, in particular climate change, have never had a higher profile, combining and sharing our experience and assets is essential.

OneGeology is an International Year of Planet Earth flagship initiative of 80 Geological Surveys around the world, supported by the major global geoscience bodies.

Simon Winchester is author of the best-selling book ‘The Map that Changed the World’ about the life of the eminent geologist, William Smith.

Geological Surveys are pooling their expertise, data and knowledge to deliver a web resource that can add value and make a difference globally. In 17 short

months OneGeology has proved its capacity to increase the accessibility of geological data, improve its interoperability and consistency, transfer know-how and raise the international profile of geoscience. For more details of the launch, OneGeology events at the IGC and OneGeology itself, go to www.onegeology.org.

WMA-02 SymposiumOneGeology-Transparent Earth

OneGeology has captured imaginations across the world. All welcome to attend the symposium

and see how nations and their surveys have taken the idea forward and made it a reality.
