STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURESTEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

First Communion Mass at St. Francis de Sales: A huge congratulations to all the children who received First Holy Communion this past weekend! Thank you to everyone who made this Mass possible and a special thank you to the Women of Saint Francis for the gifts and cookies. We are so grateful to your families for practicing with the children, making banners, watching videos/completing retreat activities, and being so flexible during this time. For everything that we cannot do right now, we were so blessed to celebrate this beautiful Sacrament. Remember, the Eucharist is available to us every weekend!

Photos taken during the Mass are available for purchase and can be found on the photographer’s website. Check them out!1) https://supersnapphotography.smugmug.com2) Click on School3) Click on First Communion 2020Great photos can also be found on Facebook. We will let you know when ordered prints are in, and you will be able to pick them up at the parish office.

St. Francis Family Celebration! New additions to the family are always cause for joyful celebration. Last weekend we welcomed these faithful men and women who have been waiting patiently to walk with us. Eric Boles, Kevin Farris, Kira Severyn, Brandon Ingersoll, Kara Locy and Nathaniel Williams were baptized into Christ’s Death and Resurrection. William Jones, Kelly Stutz, Melissa Davis, Craig Davis and Kelly Sullivan made a Profession of Faith. And together with Omar Beltran and Alexis Miller, Catholics completing their initiation, all thirteen received the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Communion. This is truly cause for us to celebrate. These new disciples are fully initiated and share in the mission to grow God’s kingdom with us. They are ready and willing to be counted in our number. Extend a welcoming hand and a kind invitation to grow their faith as you do yours. RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) continues to be available year-round at St. Francis. There is room for you (or someone you invite) to join us. Contact Theresa DeMers for details at email: [email protected]

You’ve Never Experienced Jesus Like This Before. Sometimes the Gospel can feel more like a story than like real life, but not anymore! Join us, as we dive into the brand new worldwide phenomenon, “The Chosen.” The first ever TV show about the life of Jesus presents Jesus, Mary, and the apostles, as real people we can have real relationships with.

Join us on Zoom, Mondays at 7:30p, beginning July 13th, as we watch and discuss the show that tens of millions are raving about. Find us on zoom, at: https://bit.ly/2AWhwBX.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

Proverbs 31:8-9 (NIV)

Calls continue to come in for financial and material help, which we have been answering over the phone due to COVID-19 restrictions; we are averaging over 125 calls a month.

We have stayed busy serving on average 250 meals a month through our golf cart ministry. Along the miles we travel, we are blessing children with Prayer bears, we have included rosaries, friendship bracelets (thank you Patti Vincent and the Spanish Cub) inspirational books, Mass times and hygiene products. Homelessness has increased, and we are supplying tents, tarps, water, ice and other necessities to help during this uncertain time.

We also had great response with our clothing drive, thank you Sandi and Ed Neilsen and Joe Bontemps for all your efforts. We would also like to thank State Farm Agents: Aaron May, Tony Adams, Erin Curtis, Mike Egan and Jerry Angeletti for their contributions to us in purchasing the trailer for our golf cart.COM collection this month: $975.00God Bless you all and thank you for your supportShannon Walker

Hallow is a new Catholic meditation app that combines the peace and stillness of mindful mediation with the spiritual growth of Catholic prayer. From meditations on the daily Gospel or the mysteries of the Rosary, to “praylists” on themes ranging from joy, hope, calm, and letting go, to multi-day “challenges”

that focus on digging deeper into the Our Father, the Rosary, the psalms and more. When you use this link, https://hallow.com/stfrancisnewark, to create a Hallow account online for the first time, you’ll see their 20% off Hallow Plus and 1 month free trial promotion applied automatically. If you choose to start a free trial, Hallow will donate $10.00 to our parish!

FOOD DRIVE! The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a food drive at St. Francis de Sales on Sunday, July 12, from 12:15p-3p. Donations will be received in the back parking lot. Non-perishable foods and paper products will be accepted and will benefit Catholic Outreach Ministry (COM), the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and the local Food Pantry Network.

St. Francis de Sales Directory: The 2020-2021 St. Francis de Sales Parish Directory is now being updated and will be ready for publishing this September. Advertisers: Anyone interested in placing an advertisement for their business, or a personal message in support of our new directory should call Jake Allport at 248-545-4330 or email him at [email protected]. A business card can be used in creating a new ad. This is a great way for parishioners to promote their (small or large) businesses, however advertisers do not need to be members of our church, so feel free to pass this information along to others. Parishioners: Any parishioners wishing to update personal information, or to opt out of the directory should call the Parish Office with details. All updated information must be received by Friday, July 31, 2020.

All of our children have attended SFDS preschool so far. When our oldest went to kindergarten it made sense for her to attend our local school district that my husband worked in. She did fine and so we did the same with our 2nd daughter. She struggled all year to transition despite not having any difficulty in preschool the year before. A week before school started the next year, we decided that God was trying to tell us something! We had always wanted our children to attend SFDS to help to reinforce our Catholic teachings. We also wanted our 2nd daughter to feel loved and supported like she had been in preschool. This past year was our first year at SFDS elementary and our girls both thrived. Our oldest daughter prepared for her First Communion and grew closer to Christ like we could have never imagined. Our 2nd daughter was happy and confident every day, which was not something we saw very much of the year before. SFDS has become our family! Mrs. Scullion knows all of Maggie’s siblings names despite only meeting them once or twice, Ms. Braunbeck says hello to Emma every week, we attend the same Mass, and Mrs. Mummey always lets us know how much she loves having the girls at SFDS. This Fall our 3rd daughter will attend as a kindergartener and our boys will follow in preschool when it’s time. We have been so blessed by SFDS and would never considering sending our children anywhere else!
