HYPE Makerspace summer camp for 8 weeks
June 15, 2012 – August 11, 2012
Procured all equipment, and instructors
HYPE Makerspace Team
DPL staff acted as managers
Outside instructors paid $25/hr
Teen assistants paid $8/hr
Challenges
Fit the makerspace within existing teen center
Remove distractions to increase participation
Manage funds and materials properly
Evaluation and Impact
Took place after 8 week series of workshops
Held meeting with instructors
Asked teens to fill out evaluation forms
Evaluation Conclusions
Participants very enthusiastic about makerspace
Gained skills and felt more confident
Promoted critical thinking and working together
Fostered a desire for entrepreneurship
