The first step in creating your own Lumo Play projector is to get your hardware ready.
Buy your hardwareComputer, projector, camera
Mac/Windows Web Camera Bundle1. Projector2. HDMI cable3. Mounting hardware4. Web camera5. 2 x cable protection
Windows 10 Kinect One Bundle1. Projector2. HDMI cable3. Mounting hardware4. Kinect for Xbox One5. Kinect adapter for Windows6. 2 x cable protection
You can use any projector (if you already have one), but we’re recommending the exact sametype of projector we use in the Lumo Play projector prototype . If you use this, your floor will lookexactly like what you see in our videos.
We’re assuming you already have a computer. If you don’t, you will need either a computerrunning 64 bit Windows (Win8 or Win10) or a Mac computer. Tablets and mobile devices will notwork.
To make it easy, you can go here to buy exactly what you need:

The recommended projector will cover anarea about 6ft (1.8M) across, and should bemounted on the wall about 6ft - 8ft from thefloor (the higher the projector is, the largerthe image will be on the floor).
So the ideal location for your Lumo floor isan area where you have at least 6’ x 4’ (1.8Mx 1.2M) of floorspace available.
You will need an outlet available to poweryour computer and projector.
If you are using the Kinect for Xbox One itwill also need to be plugged in.
It’s recommended that you have a shelfor desk nearby where you can place yourcomputer or laptop.

• Use the larger mount to position your camera on the ceiling, directly above the middle of the projection area, pointing down.
• The bottom of the camera should be on the same side as the bottom of the image on the floor.
• If you are using a Web Camera, it will need to be connected to your computer via USB cable.
• If you are using the Kinect for Xbox One, you will need to use the Kinect Adapter for Windows to connect the camera to your computer’s USB3 port (it’s blue) and plug the adapter into a power source.

• You will need to connect the projector to your computer using the HDMI cable, and plug the projector in to an outlet. The recommended projector can also run on a rechargeable battery, but it will not be as bright.
• You’ll need to connect the Web Camera or Kinect for XBox One (& adapter)using the USB cable attached to the camera (the Kinect must be plugged in to a blue USB3 port, and also plugged in to an outlet).
• Lastly, you should ensure your computer is plugged in.

Software setupInstall and run the software
• Zoom in to select just the projection area. Sometimes cameras can see more than just the projection area.
• Brightness is used if the area is too bright or dark to react to motion.
• Contrast is used to sense more or less motion.
• Blur is used if it is detecting too much noise move the slider to the right.
• Threshold is used to make the tracking more or less sensitive.
The camera should capture as little motion as necessary to make the software work.
The left camera display shows you exactly what your camera is seeing.
The right display shows you how much motion is being captured.
• Flip Input is used to flip the camera stream horizontally. If you need to flip the stream vertically, you will need to physically rotate your camera.

CalibrationCalibration for web camera
• Depth Sensitivity determines how sensitive the software is to changes in depth (how near or far something is).
• Minimum Motion Detected is used to ignore or capture smaller motions.
• Minimum Sensing Distance this is useful if you want to focus the sensing within a very specific area.
• Maximum Sensing Distance is used to ensure you are only picking up motion in the range you want.
• Once it’s configured remove physical markers (chairs, boxes, people, etc.) and turn Show Depth off.
Because the Kinect uses infrared light you need to use physical objects to define the projection area.
Place an object like a chair at each corner of the projection area.
Pillows, boxes or actual people can help with this as well.
• Depth Map is used to see what the camera can see. Turn it on by clicking Settings - Show Depth Map.
• Zoom in to define the area within the objects you’ve used to mark the projection area.

No camera input from Kinect for Xbox One
• Make sure that the Kinect for Xbox One is plugged into the adapter, and the adapter is plugged in to a USB 3 port and a power outlet. Manufacturers often distinguish USB 3 connectors by blue color-coding of the receptacles and plugs.
• Make sure that the Kinect for Windows Runtime was installed correctly. You can download the Kinect for Windows Runtime here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=44559
• Make sure the front of the sensor is not obstructed by power cords, computer cables, or other objects.
